Think I may do this. What are the chances of y’all doing barrel bands? Rifle looks nice for sure, just a certain look of a barrel band that I like.

With the 404 Jeffery being such a wonderful old cartridge that has transitioned into a thoroughly modern offering I think it behoves us to give it the respect it derserves (and is owed) by using its correct name.
It is not one of the many modern shortenings of the name that is so often done nowadays so please let us all use its full and correct name when refering to the 404 Jeffery or one of the recognised alternative names but all used with due respect

The .404 Jeffrey is legend and should not be built on a LEGO rifle….you name it.

A Mauser M98, made by your local gunsmith, is the straight way to go….

I'm not aware of any 404 Jeffery Nitro Express rifles being built using actions that are not Mauser 98 derivatives.

Did you have any specific manufacturers in mind?

Mauser 03 and Sauer 404, both available in 404 Jeffery - neither one is a 98 derivative. It appears that they are both being discontinued in this chambering though as the latest versions of their websites no longer list them but Eurooptic still has barrels for sale.

I would echo this - I would love to pick up one of these in 2020, but the barrel band is a must for me.

I believe you can have that done, for a small fee, when ordering the rifle from MRC.

Once in a lifetime find! I am in the process of negotiations on a original XXXXX in .404 Jeffery. If I am successful I will post pictures! No it is not an original Jeffery rifle in .404, although I know where there is one for sale, it may be the ugliest rifle that I have ever seen! Keep in mind Jefferies did not build firearms so I do not know who built it, maybe the hunchback of Notre Dame?

According to this, early on they did build guns and the company changed hands and locations several times and then became a builder in name only and outsourced much or most of the work.

CZ makes them in .404 Jeffery , but CZ rifles have a bad tendency not to work properly straight out of the box. Be sure to take it to a competent gunsmith first.
I think Heym used to make some too.

It has always been my understanding that Jefferies never made rifles themselves, but source them elsewhere. I could certainly be wrong?
Any way the very special .404 is supposed to arrive within the hour very excited to go see it and maybe make a offer. Of course after Zimbabwe banks taking all of our US dollars and replacing them with worthless Zimbabwe electronic dollars my budge is very tight! Either way I will post some pictures of this very special over 100 yr old rifle! The only problem with it, it seems to be a little on the tight side, not rough, but just tight as in like new!

I have a 30-06 from MRC and a 404 Jef in the works. They are very similar to a Win 70 and priced right for a semi custom rifle, under 2k for each. Quality and workmanship are great and the action is silky smooth.
