Everyone, we are expecting our first child! Reese Taylor will be here in August!!! As a first time dad safety is at the top of my priority list. Need advise on a GunSafe to lock up 3 rifles a shotgun and possibly fit my bow and a few documents. Any thoughts would be great! PS. I foresee the firearm collection growing over the years.

Congratulations! But you are about 5 or 6 years early at that amusement park;)

You should be on an African hunt while you still can:)

If you have a Tractor Supply in your area, they often have some of the best deals on safes.

Nashville/surrounding area has numerous options from steel to wood in various sizes all on Craigslist.
Congrats on your soon to be newest member of the family.

Congratulations! As far as a safe, look at the ones you figure will be large enough then buy one twice that size.

Congrats! My only advice is always buy bigger than you think you'll need - you'll fill it up

Congratulations!

I'm in the market for a safe also. No kids around, but I'm looking for a little security for the boomsticks. Also, hopefully a little organization. Specifics for me are fire rating, water resistance in case fire is happening and water is dumping, size of safe Vs. space available in home and has been mentioned previously, enough room for current firearms and a few more.

Minor details would include access. Electronic/biometric/combination. Dehumidifier or other corrosion inhibitor.

A good general article that I am using:

I’ll check TSC. Thanks!

That’s what I’ve heard! I may have to go for the small with long term plans for the much bigger one!!

Academy has safes on sale right now, also some great deals on the app offer up. A used safe isn’t like buying used underwear and you can find screaming deals but usually include you and your buddies moving it. If you are anywhere near your Folks, I have a set of safe dollies that you are welcome to use. They make moving gun safes a breeze!

For my last couple I just gave up and hooked up a trailer, latched a set of pallet forks to a skid loader and took the whole works to pick up the safe. Ratchet strapped the safe to the forks to haul it home and just set it in the garage;)

Depending on your future needs, you can always buy a small 8 or 10 gun safe to put in a closet then buy a bigger one a few years down the road to put in your trophy room or man cave. And congrats on the future hunter!

If you have insured valuables in your home, check with your insurance company to see if there's a discount if kept in a safe.

Congrats on the growth of the family unit! You can start with taking the kids to Disney and then move to taking them on safari! I am still not sure which one cost me more.

It really depends on 2 things. 1 how much is your budget. 2. How valuable ie expensive are your rifles?

If it is just to make sure your little girl can't get to them well get a keyed lock and put it on a closet door where you and the wife have a key. Unless you shell out some coin for a good safe, by good I'm talking TL15 min. TL30X6 is really going to cost you.

If you have a budget in mind that will help with the guidance.

Exactly. OP has time. Watch for deals at Tractor Supply as Bob suggests, COSTCO around Christmas, Menards, SAMs and even Walmart.

I ordered mine (American Security) from Frank Zykan Safe & Vault. They have pretty good pricing on the AmSec safes, which are very stout and I love mine. He also carries a couple other brands that are cheaper. Everything is drop shipped to your house.

I like your idea of starting with a smaller one because I have two. A large one in the basement for most of them during off seasons and a smaller one in the garage for the seasonal arms. Works well for me.
I like Liberty. Don’t skimp on it. Get a quality fire proof for as many hours as you can.
I don’t need dehumidifiers where I live and most of my rifles are stainless and synthetic. But if I lived in a humid climate, you better believe I’d have a dehumidifier or lots of big desiccant packs.
I purchased a Remington 700 blued and wood that supposedly lived in AZ and CO. I took it all apart only to find rust spots between the barrel, action and wood.

And of course CONGRATULATIONS to you two and grandpas and grandmas! Your world is about to come to a wonderful change!
