Blaser Rifles

Anyone with a R8 try out the new Atzl Match-Hunt Trigger? Supposedly with a flip of a button can change the trigger from the standard 1 lb 6.9oz pull to a match trigger at .88lbs. The button is located on the outside of the trigger/mag housing so not for when on the sticks but a nice feature. Not sure why but I believe I read it is not available for the safari calibers. Trying to find out more information.

I agree BigSteve about the open sights on the safari barrels. The 22mm safari barrel is the only ones that come with open sights. I will be a traditionalist with big bore rifles until my eyes make it impossible.

The ATZL trigger limits COAL to 90.5mm https://www.blaser.de/fileadmin/med.../Sonstiges/Atzl_Trigger_DE_EN_ES_FR_RU_01.pdf

As for the sights, you can get standard Blaser barrels without, with standard or with HIVIZ sights (my recommendation) and I believe the safari barrels come with a 3rd type of sights but I’ve only seen pictures.

R8 is not a particularly lightweight rifle, my professional success wearing Leica Magnus 1-6 scope weighs around 4kg-9lbs, I’m using a 200kg scale so can’t measure it accurately. You can screw in a mercury recoil reducer to add another pound to it (it takes about 2 minutes).

I came very close to purchasing a R8 this past January. But when looking at the R8 versus the Merkel Helix, the Helix is a much "nicer" looking firearm. However, the Merkel does not come every caliber like the R8. In the mean time, I guess I will stick with my SAKO's.

Ciao io posseggo una r8 in 30-06 e una canna di ricambio in 6xc con munizioni ricaricate la precisione e super top !

Thank you, gentlemen. I'm buying one, and much appreciate everyone's input.

Hey Red Leg if I was a nurse in the ward where your "Baby" was born I would have knocked it on the head with a hammer and turfed it in the dumpster out back !!!!!!!!!!!!

(Whoa, no, no, no, sorry dumb Aussie humor, just joking :A Yes: )

I USED to have a real issues with Blasers after seeing a shooter with half his face ripped open by a 93 ( I posted about this incident here in Ahunting.com some time ago),
but since then I have herd and seen no such problems with the current model.

I believe that Blaser have got it right with this current model and those wishing to adopt this platform as there preferred weapon ( as many of my friends have ) seem to be very satisfied with their choice, as you do too.

My apologies if I have offended any Blaser owners as that was NOT my intent.

hi all

i have said these things before on other threads re Blaser but here goes again anyway
i have 2 blaser R8's one is wood stock with a 416 rem mag (heavy barrel) and 300 win mag(fluted heavy barrel) barrels
other is a synthetic stock with 9,3x62 and 6,5X55 barrels (semi weight barrels)
all are (heavy) barrels and both stocks have a kickstop fitted, i really dont care about the weight of the gun and i am not a bench shooter, i am a ph in South africa and happily walk hours in a day with these guns
yes they are heavy with the heavy barrels, but with a kickstop in the stock i feel they are very well balanced and come up nicely and to be honest are beautiful to shoot!!!
i just prefer a heavy gun, why?? who knows but i do
just a little advice, dont waste money on a fancy hi grade wood stock, i like to use my guns and i dont want to worry about bumping thousands of dollars of wood, you can get a great piece of wood in lower grade and it will still look great and save you a lot of money
i absolutely think Blaser has got to be one of the safest, nicest looking and best use weapons available
while a little pricey, you will not be sorry!!

regards

I agree that wood stock are meant for hunting. Just an fyi, as of Jan. 2019 any R8 Safari caliber stock/rifle now comes standard with grade 7 wood. This goes for the kilombero and selous. Plus as stated earlier it was a great excuse to buy a professional hunter composite stock.

Life's too short to hunt with an ugly gun. :D

How do you find that stock shape?

Perfect. Creates a light rifle with the feel of an English stalking rifle.

My wallet is getting a bad feeling about it...

It appears that of the Blasers shown, they are all of the feed from the top variety. Does anyone use a magazine fed version? And if so, any issues?

Don't believe there is any such thing. Blaser trigger/magazine groups are removable - almost like a magazine by simply pressing two tabs. It is a single component. You can load it dismounted or from the top while installed. It is necessary in order to insert a magazine adapter for cartridges of a different family.

That’s not completely correct. You can change the adapters without taking the magazine/trigger group out but it’s harder and more fiddly to do so. If I remember correctly R93 has a non removable magazine, any R93 users able to confirm it?

Since the trigger group/magazine pops right out, I see no need to try it.

@Opposite Pole the magazine can be removed from the R93. But it cannot be detached like the R8. You need to take the scope off so you can lift the magazine out from the top.
