Bossie Mostert hurt by a wounded buffalo today

If you don’t want to get hurt, don’t go hunting. Bad luck. Bossie or a client wanted to kill that buffalo.
Why blame a wild animal which just defended itself?
What is your problem exactly? I think you are finally starting to fit into this group a bit, and then along comes something like this.
Ok so got some more details.
They have been tracking this buff a few days and had bumped him several times. Long short, Bossie was gored through leg leg around the knee, in the abdomen, and has several broken ribs. Biggest concern at the moment is infection. Seems like he will recover well but he may have a hitch in his giddyup for a bit.

Thanks Giz. Thoughts and prayers with he and his family. I don't really know him, met him at a show once, but I do know he carried a lot of the PH responsibilities on his own shoulders. Just hope there are some other PHs who can keep the business going while he recovers.

As @CAustin so clearly puts it, I hope everyone going off to hunt these big black things thinks through the consequences of screwing up that first shot - bow or rifle. Some client archer, assuming he has conscious, now has to live with this for the rest of his life.

All the best Bossie. Hope you are up and back in the game soon.

Are you out of your mind? I read the thread three times now to see what you are talking about. Nobody blames the buff. The thread is here to inform members regarding the event and keep us posted regarding his recovery.

You beat me to it......and hope all goes well and a fast recovery :D Beers:

The question is, what’s your problem with that buffalo? You are living in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, there are no raiding comanches anymore nor dangerous buffalo. Quite a safe place to live.

However Africa can be dangerous and if one goes after one of the most dangerous animals on earth, well the outcome is incalculable. Soon I’ll be hunting buffalo, if I get hurt or killed, bad luck but so what, nobody forced me to book the hunt. Those who seek the danger can perish in it...

Bossie is a friend to many here on AH. In the last 3-4 years he has:

-lost his home and the contents to a tornado and rain.
-wife died.
-raising a pre-teen boy by himself.
-worked at keeping a business going through all of this.
-now, been hit and gored by a buffalo. Not sure how he is going to deal with the medical expenses or keep business going for the next undetermined amount of time, all at the start of the season.

AH is a great community filled with wonderful people. Out of this amalgamation of humanity, you stand out as either one of the most insolent or obtuse of all. Can't figure which one it is yet.

More prayers for Bossie!

Thanks for putting those words together so well Bob. Many of us are thinking and feeling the same.

God I sure hope Bossie's 416 Rigby didn't get broke on top of all this, that would really hurt him;)

You know what, I have seen and unfortunately contributed to more death, wounds and destruction than most will ever imagine - so spare me the unctuous bravado of preparing to take on one of Africa's buffalo. A good man has been injured, and you think it is cool to hijack the discussion. Bet that makes you feel as noble as booking that hunt. Spare me.

I don't personally know Bossie but have read of his troubles during the past few years which were posted by other forum members. Those of you that do know him, keep us up to date on his recovery and if we can do anything to assist him.

Hope he makes speedy recovery

On a better note, I just flew home March 11th from over there hunting and hanging out with Bossie. He and DJ were doing well and moving on with their lives. They have moved back home to Louis Trickard and living in a modest but beautiful home. DJ is in a private school and doing well, loves his teacher and probably for the first time, is taking his studies seriously.

For the record, when I left from my previous visit over 3 years ago. Bossie's late wife, Henriette gave me a big hug and told me that they never would have made it without us.... Meaning the Good People on AH who contributed to help them out after they lost everything in that storm.

On this note @BWH and I are in the process of setting up a fundraiser to help Bossie out. Give me a few days please and I will let everyone know the details.

Glad DJ is doing well in school! Thanks for the update.

As a 10 year old, DJ could shoot that 416 Rigby better than most adults.

We are waiting to hear back on a few things and will let everyone know how to help as soon as the details are worked out.

Thoughts an prayers Bossie. Wishing you a fast recovery.
Thanks to those that have been pushing information and setting up the fund raiser.

I took the ignorant troll off of ignore for this thread thinking he might have actually said something nice. I won't ever make that mistake again.

Cant someone ban this bushpig4ever? You sir don't belong here with the good folk who look out for one another. Bossie has been thru enough without your insensitive remarks. Now was not the time!
