My search skills are failing me. I swear I saw someone post something to the effect that to get solids and tsx etc to print the same you had to use less or more powder in the solids. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks,

Lee

Typically you get higher pressures with solids vs softs so you ought to reduce loads somewhat. That’s what Woodleigh recommends for their solids. Not sure about TSX but I guess it’ll be similar. As to how they’ll print comparing to other pill I think that’s a question you’ll need to ask your rifle.

Two different materials in the jackets, pressure will be different. I would use the Barnes manual for the TSX, and the solid bullet manufacturers manual

I think the "less powder with solids" rule assumes lead core bullets.

Once you get to using mono-metals, the old rules don't necessarily hold up.

Barnes banded solids are made from brass. They show more velocity in the loading manual than the TSX does. Also, powder charges are higher I believe. This would tell me that they create less friction in the barrel than the TSX.

On Barnes solids the bullet disameter is under size and seal is From groves section which is full 458 diameter
Less pressure and resistance

One thing on manuals and I found this in one of Barnes is that they printed the wrong load data for at least one cartridge that I found. If you would of followed the loading's you would of lost your rifle within a couple of pulls of the trigger.

I notified Barnes and all they did was to send me the correct loading's for that cartridge.

This is where they recommend that you back off all loads 10% and work up from there.

True that’s why you always do a ladder test of new loads starting 10% below

That's the plan for tomorrow! Hoping the process is swift. Seems like the big bores are less finicky than the smaller stuff sometimes.

I ended up using seperate powders to get CEB solids and TSX softs to print the same at 50 yards.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
Ross
