Have a good friend who is going to Africa and he invited me to go with him. I have wanted to go and this is a good opportunity. He has gone before and with the same outfit. I was directed here from another forum, they said this is the place to be!! Glad to be here, thanks.

Welcome Markopolo50 to AH!
Who is the outfitter?
When are you going?
Are you taking your own rifle and if so what caliber?
Do you know what trophies you’re planning on?
Are you practicing off sticks?

You’re going to have a great adventure!

Welcome aboard and congrats on the upcoming trip

Hello and welcome. There is a ton of knowledge here. Not me...everybody else though.

Welcome to AH Markopolo50! Enjoy exploring the site.

Ah Ridgewalker, I tried to give all the details but for some reason I can't post my lengthy reply??

I will try smaller answers! Outfitter is Impondo Safaris

Going in early June, 10 day hunt. I want to take a Cape buffalo. I have a Browning Abolt 375HH. I know my first, and maybe my last, probably shouldn't be a buffalo, but I'm 65 and have taken a few North American animals, moose in Alaska the biggest.

I'll try the whole thing now:
Ah Ridgewalker, thanks for the questions. I was kind of vague when I wrote the intro. Impondo Safaris/Lures & Lead is the outfitter. Early June is the expected date of departure and it will be a 10 day hunt. I am planning on taking my own rifle and have a Browning A bolt in 375 HH or a Remington 700 in 375 Ultra mag. I am thinking the HH. Never been over there before and may be making a mistake by going after the game I want. I am not a spring chicken, will be 65 in June. I may not ever go back, and I know many have said this, but it may be my only trip. I've always wanted a Cape Buffalo so that is my main purpose. Large antelope would be on the list also. My friend has already paid for an elephant hunt, so even if I am able to just go with him, it will be a great time. Haven't practiced off sticks yet. This just came about last week.

I am not a newbie when it comes to hunting but sure don't know what to expect in Africa. I have hunted in Michigan my whole life and out west a number of times. Deer and antelope and elk out west. Moose, black and grizzly bear, Dall sheep, wolf and caribou in Alaska.

Just getting there is going to be an adventure. We are in south central Michigan so I believe we are leaving from Detroit or Chicago. My buddy uses a travel agent and he said we will probably fly with Emirates.

Any and all tips and ideas would be appreciated

Thanks
Mark

Mark, you’re a spring chicken compared to some of the old farts here:ROFLMAO:! Hmm...I almost forgot, I didn’t make my first trip until I was 68. Heading back for lion/lioness this year on my 72nd BD. Planning to take my granddaughter in 2020 (nonDG) for her 14th BD. I have 2 great grandkids, but that’s not stopping me!

You’re going to be ahead of me taking a Cape buffalo on your first trip (waited for my second trip). Good for you! Have a grand adventure...I’d almost bet money it won’t be your last Africa adventure!:sneaky:

Welcome Markopolo50. Happy planning!

Welcome aboard Marcopolo50. I live in Michigan as well. On an island south of Detroit between the U.S. and Canada. I'm 75, we went on our second Safari last July. If you love to hunt, your first trip will prove to be so much fun that you'll be talking about the next trip on the flight home. Take a look at the Forums, they contain answers to lots of questions that may be of interest to you. My biggest piece of advice for you is to start shooting off sticks. You will be expected to use them while in Africa. I'd advise using a 22 or 17 HMR to start off with, once you get comfortable, move up to a center fire rifle.

Welcome to AH!
