Bad Weather .416 Rigby

I just got a 30-06 from MRC that I ordered at the SCI show and it is beautiful. I mentioned that I was going to Africa in April and Ron said to "make damn sure he has his gun by 15 March." I had my gun by 15 March. The product and customer service were top notch. So much so that I ordered a 404 Jeff African to be delivered in about four months.

Glad to hear it, It's nice to hear a Montana company is building a great rifle and has turned things around. I used to live not far from Kalispell.

J416, I suspect you were looking at an old thread about poor experiences with MRC. The firm is under new ownership and has gone to great lengths to overcome the previous quality and customer service issues. I haven't see a word about a dissatisfied customer for over 6 months. Give Ron at MRC a call, I'm betting he will take good care of you.

I have read really good things about MRC. Also excellent things from the new Owner. Definitely a contender.

There's a CZ 416 Rigby for sale on this site. It's been customized by AHR with 3 position safety, glass bedding, and barrel band front sight. Barrel cut to 21". Has a camo paint job.
Check it out.

Thank you. I'm checking it out now.

Well that's awesome news!! The more I hear about MRC, the more likely I may be to going this way.

I'm in the same situation. I want to take my 500 Jeffery to Alaska in a few years. I'm less worried about cosmetic damage then I am it changing point of aim. I'm thinking of getting it CeraKoted (want to find a color just like my blueing) and having my gunsmith put it in a B&C synthetic stock. I want to be able to put it back in it's walnut stock when I get back with minimal fuss. So I will talk to Harlan at Triple River and Kevin Weaver (my Colorado gunsmith) about the pros and cons.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

That's EXACTLY what I was initially thinking. I've looked at the Cerakote website. There list of colors is seemingly endless. There's Tungsten, Burnt Bronze, Blackout, Graphite Black, Midnight, Armor Black....and on and on...lol

Again. You are the same track as I have been. Question: does anyone know if the stock OEM synthetic "Aramid" on the CZ is actually a Bell & Carlson ?

I've been doing some really exhaustive research on the endless colors available with Cerakote. I to would like a color that approximates the original blue. As far as I can tell, the color "Midnight Blue H238" is the closest to an original finish. The "Blacks" are just that. Some variation of Black. But I saw many nice shotguns and rifles with the Midnight Blue and it looked really nice.

Just thought I might try to save someone about a 1000 hours of Eye-Watering study looking at Cerakote colors...lol

I spoke with Wayne at AHR about having a coating done on my CZ550 and he recommended ROBAR.
Specifically the ROBAR NP3+ for the best possible results.

I'm thinking of doing this, but it will have to wait until my Safari and Taxidermy is paid for.

Robar. I was high into that company I think it must be maybe 20 years ago. I'm super glad they're still going strong. As mentioned, I was high on their NP3 finish. Tho, it's been so long I cannot accurately remember the details. Was it a Nickel-Teflon combination?

Maybe I'll just have Wayne do it. I'll give him a call. Not planning to go to Alaska this year so maybe over the winter .... Thanks! I should've thought of that.

Yes.

Wayne mentioned that ROBAR will disassemble, apply the finish, reassemble and ship it back.
He did recommend sending the rifle to him for disassembly, he would ship the parts to them, get them back, reassemble and return to me.
I know it would cost a little more to have Wayne do the work, but when DG is on the menu who do you want working on your rifle?
When it comes to my CZ, I want AHR.

Like I said, after this Safari....

With all the great suggestions, I think I've narrowed it down.

1. The Montana Rifle Company Alaskan
2. CZ 550
3. Sako Brown Bear

I still need to know 1) what they actually weigh and, 2) actual magazine capacity.

I know the CZ550 with the synthetic stock comes in at just over 9# with a magazine capacity of 3, plus one in the chamber.

I'm kinda set on 416 caliber. Only because I already own a 416 and love it. And because I hunt a lot in Grizzly infested country.

I'm kind wondering. Do you know if, hopefully I'm not highjacking my own Thread, the 416 Ruger is the same as the old 416 Taylor?

No the 416 Ruger and Taylor are different, but similar cartridges. The Taylor is a 458 Win Mag necked down to 416. The Ruger is the 375 Ruger necked up, more capacity.

If you are a reloader, or don't mind pricey ammo, I may be able to work you a deal on a bad weather 416 Taylor in s synthetic stock built off a M98.

Kinda breezed through this thread a bit. I bought a used CZ550 in .416 Rigby a few years back. It had a tiny rust spot near the muzzle, probably from leaning against something in storage for a few years. Anyway, I sent it to a local shop and had the original bluing bead blasted off and a matte cerakote on everything. That process took about 9 months to accomplish because I told them I wanted it done correctly. I then mounted a Bell & Carlson American Safari pillar bedded stock stock. The rifle weighed just about 9 3/4 lbs at that point. I had another local shop mount an EAW Quic-Loc mount on it. Currently it is mounted with a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7 x 32 mm (was mounted on a Ruger #1 in .405 Winchester for a few years). The rifle weighs approximately 10 lbs. total. All said and done: rifle was $850 shipped, cerkote $120, EAW Quic-Loc mount $400, stock $180, scope $120, scope mounting $80, and all totaled equals $1750 USD. Not too shabby, now to find a range or buy some property to shoot it on..........................
Plan on using Speer 350 gr for the light stuff, 410 gr Woodleigh softs and solids for the DGs. Good luck and stay safe!!!!!

BTW, the CZ has a 3+1 capacity.
