Just purchased a Caldwell Rock shooting rest. The "positive forend stop," intended to allow exact replacement of rifle for each shot stands too low for two of my rifles: both Remington 700 BDL models.. Thoughts?

After looking at it on Midway’s site, maybe slip a padded metal tube of the appropriate length over the rod? OR... If the rod treads into the rest, get a length of allthread, screw it in, bend it and cut to the desired length.

I was thinking allthread too but check to see if the threads are English or metric. Aside that, if you are shooting 200 or under, an inch either way isn't going to make any difference.

Thanks. Was not familiar with allthread but am now.

You guys are going about this all wrong.

The proper solution is clearly, another firearm.
One that fits the rest properly.

That's the proper AH way of fixing things.

Yes an excuse to buy a new rifle!

577 NE makes the same size hole with just one shot.
Ha!

I have a Rock, The forend stop didn't work well for me so I just took it off, I have never missed it, now it rolls around in the bottom of my range box. Of course a new rifle works too!

I had a Rock Jr rest which lacks the forend stop. Part of reason for purchasing the Rock (Sr?) was to obtain the forend stop rest--try to maintain similar rifle position for all shots. Will keep playing with it. Thanks

I use a Rock and bag. My best advice: make sure you line the forestock up exactly the same each time for best accuracy. I like pushing the rifle fairly forward, a couple inches forward of the magazine well. The key is: make sure you set the rifle at the same exact point each time on the stock. You don't want to change the pressure point on the stock - it can affect accuracy.

oh, and remove the sling swivels for bench resting. I was recoiling into them and it was spoiling my accuracy.

Caldwell built a good rest.

I ordered one this past weekend. It arrived today. I'll be trying it out on Saturday, assuming it doesn't rain.

The point of purchasing the Caldwell Rock was that the forend stop was designed to maintain same rifle position for each shot. And
I learned about removing the rifle sling several years ago. Thanks for the comments.

Just for some data, try your rifles with and without the stop and report back.
