So over the weekend a friend and I ventured upstate to Grice Gun Shops anniversary sale. I had no intentions of buying a gun for myself all I wanted was to pick up some bullets and a couple pounds of powder and talk to the Ruger factory rep. Well it turns out that they had a special going on, Ruger American rifles in 270 Win. and 30-06 Sprg. with bronze colored stocks. The bronze stock really caught my eye, it just looked a lot more appealing to me then the standard black and green stocks that they have been pumping out. And they were priced right too $299.95. How could I not buy one? I mean I only have four 30-06's and one more couldn't hurt, right? And there was one more thing that made my purchase decision easier Larry Weishuhn was at the store and he graciously agreed to autograph my new gun. The whole experience just kind of fell into place, I felt as though it was no use fighting it, it was going to happen. And it turns out that I may need more guns down the road anyway, my son and daughter in law just informed my wife and I that we are going to be grandparents one more time this fall. Seems like I can get away with buying anything as long as it's for the grand kids.

No sadly I don't win all that often so it never gets old.
 
Great score. I know the feeling " do i need another gun" phenomena. Its hard to pass up good deals

You are right it was a good deal and it just got better I called them today and they said that the sale prices would be honored until the end of April. I've been talking to some friends and it looks like I'll be making another road trip north shortly. How they can sell guns that shoot the way these do for such a low price is beyond me. I own several of them and they all shoot better then most of my pricier guns.
 
That's a good deal for sure. Been to Grice's before, my wife's family lives up in Central PA.

It's probably a good thing that I live 150 miles away or I'd most likely be to broke from buying guns to go hunting.
 
jduckhunter, if there is a possibility of additional future grandkids you could stock up now at a very reasonable price. No one here will think of you as being over prepared.:rolleyes:

Maybe the ones responsible for having the grandkids may feel the pressure to keep the kids count up with the guns count :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Well if that's their plan they better get busy cause they have a lot of catching up to do.
 
Man, you are living right. You stole a gun, you got Larry's autograph, you have a new addition to the family. What next? More great priced guns? I'd suggest a clearcoat on the stock to preserve the autograph if you plan to hunt with it. Good luck.
 
Great deal, I was very skeptical of the Ruger American, until I shot one! First shot from one was behind the ear of a nilgai with one in 6.5 Creedmore. I then shot it on the range when we got back to the ranch and it really surprised me. I ordered one in 6.5 and one in 300 B.O. both shoot great and are perfect loaners for kids hog hunting and beating them up.

Agree. I have one in 6.5 creed for fun and .450 BM for lower Michigan deer. Great shooters with an even better price. You don’t care if they get roughed up in the thorns.
 
I mentioned in my original post that I wanted to talk to the Ruger rep. while at the gun sale. Well I did talk to him about some issues that we experienced with some Ruger guns recently, mainly chamber length differences in like caliber rifles from Ruger and the fact that 2 new guns had to be sent back twice each before the issues with them were resolved. And then there is the problem with my sons new SP101, 357 mag. revolver, he sent it back because he ran out of rear sight adjustment and couldn't get it adjusted far enough to get it to hit center at 7 yards. Someone at the factory shot it and sent it back to him claiming that there was nothing wrong with it. Well that didn't sit very well with me, so I had a very lively discussion with the factory rep. about that too. Yesterday I received an email from a factory rep. asking questions and wanting to know more about the issues and this morning I received a phone call from a service rep. Long story short my son's revolver is being picked up tomorrow by UPS and heading for repairs and I was thanked several times by several different Ruger employees for bringing the issues to their attention. This action is more like the old Ruger Co. that I am accustomed to dealing with. So I'm sitting here hoping for the best and at least feeling more confident that things are going to be made right.
