Thinking about a 405 Winchester

The more I read and hear about the 405 Win. makes me want to get my 444 Marlin out of the safe and start shooting that thing. I've had it for probably 20 years or more and have never even loaded it. It's not like I've been ignoring it on purpose or anything, it's just that the right situation hasn't arisen yet for me to start working with it. Years ago we were toying with the idea of a bison hunt and I figured that was a good excuse to purchase a 444, well the bison idea got put on hold and the whole project went forgotten. I think I'll dig it out and maybe take it along on next years bear hunt, should be good medicine for that.

TR would have thought he had died and gone to Heaven if he had the quality of bullets we have today. That has always been one of the shortcomings in the past. You can load that thing to do whatever you need it to do now.

The .405 is calling me back again!:eek: I sold the 95 I used in RSA a few years back, didn't figure I would ever really have use for it again. Don't have use for it now but who cares?o_O:D;)

Believe me I am the sane with my 45/70. I know I should use it but the situation doesn’t seem to arise. Giving it to my son who will use it on Sambar deer.
Then I’ll find a use for it the next day.

Dr Ray,
Take the 45-70 hunting and leave the bolt actions home.
Not much the old round will not kill. I have a couple of them and the .45-90.
Here is my latest .45-70: A Beretta double rifle:

I need your help, there's a Ruger #1 Tropical Stainless in 405 Win. coming up at auction here soon and I'm thinking about buying it. I keep trying to convince myself that I need it, but I'm having a hard time making up my mind. I mean I am planning a return trip to Africa in 2020, but it's not like I'm under gunned or anything. Probably just going to be a plains game hunt, but one never knows for sure. I've got everything up to and including 30-06 pretty well covered, then I have a 300 H&H in a #1, a 338 Win. Mag and a 375 Ruger both in 77's. Do I need a 405 Win. ? What do you think?
Of course because it is addiction. I have it too.

It's a need and want thing. We don't need it but we want it. We need to satisfy the want. Besides, old guns have that really cool factor.

Hows that song go? I need it, I want it, I got to have it!!o_O:rolleyes::eek::D:D:D

LOL, no worries. Inside with all doors and windows closed!!o_O:rolleyes::eek::D:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

All this 405 talk is making me think about building a 2nd 400 Whelen, but with a shorter barrel that would equal and maybe just beat the 405 loaded hard

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......................................... .405 Winchester............................................
An original Winchester Model 1895 Deluxe TD made in 1910 I inherited and still shoot:

I no longer use the Hawk bullets. I went to Accurate Molds and had a mold made for a plain base boolit:

Been playing around for a long time with this, enjoying every bit of it along the way.............................................

Also had a Ruger #1 in .405 Winchester that I sold a few years back to purchase a CZ550 American Safari in .416 Rigby. Why, because I already had a .405 Win. and a .416 Rigby was calling to me............................. :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky: (just sayin'!!!!!!!)

That 95 you have there is probably worth 10K today! Beautiful rifle!

Got this home yesterday. Have already put a Win red pad on it, swapped out the barrel open sights for a Williams Foolproof. Rifle is near new in the box. Just didn't seem right to have a bunch of .405 components and dies sitting around with nothing to shoot them in.:rolleyes::rolleyes::D

Ses, reckon you can put this to music?

I promised not to...:rolleyes::eek::D:D

Maybe around a remote camp fire where there are no critics.

I doubt a remote enough place exists!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I might try that but next buff hunt I’m taking 375 H&H and 416 Remington.
Hard enough carrying plus a suitcase.
I have scrub bull skull arriving next week from Darwin.
