The subject label was created from old Simson documentation and it shows the entire plant/Fabrik site, early site, and the three pyramid emblem. It also lists other Simson products made there.

On the case:

If any Simson gun owners want a jpeg of the label, please send me a PM with your email address and I will send it to you.

Very cool! Now I’m going to need a custom case :D
Thank you crs, PM sent. Gorgeous rifle and case, the label makes it complete (y)

Thanks for the compliment on the rifle, case, and all.
The .405 caliber and the showy wood are what first attracted me to the rifle and complete kit. It shoots OK also. (y)

Great job on the label. As you know, the Germans weren't big on english cases or labels so finding an original (may have never existed) presents a problem you solved. They also loved to use leg of mutton cases 99% of the time. I think your efforts to create something based on company documentation is just awesome.

I'd encourage you to watermark/void those makers labels you posted to prevent people exploiting your work. There are at least 3 outfits that will steal your label and sell them for $35 a copy.

What I did in the past for best results was this: I'd go to the art supply store and buy one sheet of very expensive artists paper in creme so it has age. I'd cut it to size with a scalpel, and then I'd run it through a nice quality inkjet printer at highest definition. What came out was a 40lb stock label that shows really, really well. It also works great for all the warning and instruction labels they'd occasionally glue in (use this kind of shot, how to disassembly, lubrication specs, etc.)

Rookhawk,
Thanks for the flowers and the watermark suggestion. I will run this by my graphics expert (wife) and get an opinion.

Rookhawk,
I may have misspoken when explaining the source of the Trades Label graphic; it is my understanding that this was originally used by Simson&Co. on a document which had been in the public domain for many decades. The graphic was provided to me by a helpful gentleman in Finland.
We liked it and used it without changes.
The border was taken from a MS Word library and the graphic placed in the border. The final image was sized multiple times for best fit on the gun case lid and then printed onto label stock with removable film over the adhesive back. Then a protective laminate film was laid over the graphic and all trimmed to size. The final step was to remove the back film and apply the finished label.

I have already emailed "our" bordered graphic to a couple of Simson gun owners for their double gun cases and offered the same on the two forums that helped with searching for a Trade Label. I have no intention of trying to market the label or provide more services than emailing it to an interested Simson gun owner. I will discuss this with my attorney today when bird hunting and let you know his opinion.

Understood. I was just saying that there are three sleezey guys out there that sell trade labels. (And some honest ones too) The pirates take peoples labels, restoration graphics, etc and then start selling them on their sites for $35 a piece.

I’m sure you’d be upset if what you cropped, trimmed, and formatted to give away free at your discretion became a commercial product without your consent in which you receive no compensation.

That was my point.

Have seen the companies on-line of which RH refers. Was looking for a label myself....which I didn't find.

rookhawk;
Lunch meeting and bird hunt went well.
After thorough discussion, attorney says that since the label was in public domain for years and since I have no interest in selling it and no concern about how it may be used, there is no reason to take further actions.
Thanks to all for advisory on this.

sierraone - WRT availability of Gun Trade Labels, my internet searches tuned up only one vendor with an extensive library and selection and that was Connecticut Shotgun/Galazan and I bought my Beretta Trade Label there for $18. They seem to have a good reputation in the gun industry.

Beautiful rifle and case!

CAustin,
Glad you like.
Now that the Simson is all dolled- up and I have the Beretta Trade Label, it is time to do the same for the Beretta .45-70 double. ;) First, a take down case for the 26 inch barrels, ,,,,

CAustin,

Aha!!!!
I just located another treasure trove of early Simson& Company material, including a catalog. I will study and report on anything of interest.
