Dozens of Lion Import permits issued

Do you know for a fact exactly what the USF&WS wants to see on permit applications or are you guessing? Have you successfully applied for a permit under the new case-by-case system?

I ask because no one here seems to know what the new system requires? The USF&WS has no information or guidance, the application forms are the same? The two import brokers I’ve talked to personally tell me that they have not received any approved permits since the new system went into effect and they don’t know what additional information is required. The permits for lions that this article refers to were submitted when Obama was running the USF&WS.

I’m going to use my connections to AFGE Union to get answers as to what exactly they require rather than guessing.
You are correct that no one knowsEXACTLY what is going on and how we will proceed in the future on permits. John Jackson III with a conservation force will know and will probably have more answers soon. He has an article in The Hunting Report as well as elsewhere. He is THE authority on these issues and helped me get my lion permit.
Only a fool would believe political contributions have anything to do with permits!

Good description of the detractors.

Because your brain does not operate in such a twisted fashion you missed the implied self righteous accusation about being a "rich, whatever" abusing the system to get whatever you want.

It's too bad you missed it and could not muster the manufactured outrage required by the folks at "Awful"

If you would like to empathize with them, please PM @Philip Glass with your best attempt at outrage.

eg. "I can't believe you made a perfectly legal donation to a political party when you could have used those funds for another trophy fee that would have helped the villagers where you hunted your Lion. What a bloody waste!"

Ah, my mistake then!

Was fortunate to meet John several years ago and started donating my small share to his organization. Agree with you Philip that he is the one that will know and understand what is going on and let us know in his various reports!

You are correct that the approved permits were submitted before Zinke/Trump but those applicants were approved by the USFWS after Zinke/Trump and the applicants provided good answers to the questions as well.

I have applied for a 2019 permit. The 2019 permits were not considered in the 2016-2018 round. I hope my permit is approved in the next round. The form instructions and press releases are fairly clear. The questions 9a, b, and c on the form ask about license fees paid towards management, community benefits and also ask about population trend data. They aren't going to spell it out exactly for you. Every area is different. You have to come up with your own wording. You need to get the best info you can from your operator/outfitter. Send everything you can. I sent a lot of population data, lion aging info, anti-poaching data and community benefits paid/provided by the outfitter. My friend on the Zinke council believes that the area I hope to hunt will be approved as the data is available and trusted. He even told me to go do the hunt even if the permit is issued after the hunt but I am not taking that risk. Good luck to you.

And I am mentioned in the piece! They detest me......
My dad always said you can tell as much about a man from his enemies as from his friends.
Good job!

Blues Brother,
I'm planning on Contacting my Union Brothers in the USF&W service in January 2019 when the whole permitting process starts. I don't have any close political ties to the Party in power...however I want my leopard to come all the way home should he visit my bait? I'll use what ever insider leverage a retired AFGE Local President still has and share whatever inside information I can get.
Keep the faith...Gunner don't quit!
Ok brother, my PH got the leopard permit! I am booked and leaving May 27, pull some strings!;)

What does this mean that your PH got the permit?

A permit is the equivalent of a “tag” here in the states. Only so many are issued for given areas and not everyone gets one.
No this thread is about receiving USFWS Imports Permits for CITES species and the permit is issued to the USA hunter, not a PH. The USFWS import permit allows the hunter to get the trophy back to the US.

Perhaps you are referring to a PH receiving a quota to hunt an animal?

Sorry Scott guess I kinda confused everyone. One of our brother members joked about pulling some strings to possibly get an import tag for leopard, so I was referring that I may need one.

Did you apply for your leopard permit? I got my Marco Polo sheep permit just a day or two before my hunt last November and am still waiting on my lion permit.

I suppose I probably spoke a bit out of turn without reading every post in the thread.

I understand the subject of the thread however the context of Johnny’s post suggested (at least to me) that his PH had gotten confirmation that he had been allotted a “tag” or “quota” for a leopard. Hence he was making plans to leave for the hunt.

I had to laugh about the post with a stick shift helping to keep car thefts down, I started my driving days driving a old john deere tractor with a hand clutch spreading cow shit in the wind and at nine years of age I had to stand up to shift gears and the brown mist got on all my cloths

So is there a way to get one of these big trophy imports that doesn't imvolve having to write an essay? Because this all sounds like a college assignment

Correct my friend.
