Selling my Model 70 Safari Express in 416 RM as it is redundant with my 404. Bought this a few years ago used from Cabelas and have not done much with it. This is a fairly recent production gun made after the New Haven plant closed. I would call the metal 98% and the wood 95%. Only mark I can see on the metal is on the front sight where the hood slid too far back and scraped the bluing on the ramp. That way when I got it and not very noticeable. The wood has a few minor dents, mainly on the front of the grip. I have tried to show that in the pictures. Looks to me like it came from riding in some kind of a rack. Again, that way when I got it. Bore is bright - don’t believe it has been shot much. Also have 50 rounds Cor Bon DPX ammo, 40 rounds Hornady DGS and 11 rounds Hornady DGX. $975 shipped in the conus for the rifle and $2.75/ round shipped in the conus for the ammo. $1,200 for the whole package.

Custom, I'm not interested in purchasing this rifle but I do have a couple of questions to ask.
One, why are you selling this and not the 404 Jeffery? Have you shot the 416 Remington Mag? If so how would you compare the recoil to that of a 404 Jeffery?

Toby 458, depending on Custom's answer I may be eating crow, but I'm curious as to how an owner of both calibers compares the two side by side.

Factory ammo for the 416 rem is loaded to 2400 fps (same as the 416 Rigby) while I have been shooting the 404 at about 2250. Same 400 grain projectiles in both, so the felt recoil, to me, in the 404 is less. I have shot my 404 at 2400 and it was similar to the factory ammo in the 416. I could load the 416 down, but because of the investment in my custom 404 and it's "panache", that is the one I will keep.

Not to mention...that lifetime supply of bullets for the 404!

I have a 404J as well as a .416 but a Rigby, not a Rem Mag. I can tell you that the .404 has less felt recoil than the .416, but to be honest, I have never noticed the difference when shooting at an animal. Off the bench is a different story, but I don't tend to put a whole lot of rounds through either one just for fun - enough to make sure the scope is on, or to remind me why I love these guns for hunting and not target practice, and then it's over to a .223 for the target practice.

Nice looking gun! You realize throwing that Hornady ammo in with it lowers the value, right? Soooo, about $1300 without the DGS/DGX?? LOL

Right, Kevin. I should pay you $100 to take the Hornady ammo off of my hands

Day late, and a dollar short. Was very actively looking for one of these for a few weeks and called off the search about 2 weeks ago. Folk's this is very great pricing on a gun I called several shops around the US to get used.

@K-man, just noticed that my imogee didn’t show up. I didn’t mean to be snarky in my response to your post. Here it is :)

MRBlack, check your pm.

Just sold the rifle locally. Thanks, @MRBlack. Very nice and hard working young man planning his first Safari with his grandfather. Hope the rifle fells a nice buffalo for you! Ammo is still available as grandad is a reloader. Make me an offer. Worst I could say is no.

Thank you very much sir.

PRICE DROP: Anyone interested in the ammo at $2 round? Any or all of it shipped in the conus.

Ammo now SPF

I just noticed the "Made in USA . . . Assembled in Portugal" on the barrel. Can anyone explain what that means and why it would be done? I assume it's about money (as always), but surely if the pieces are made in the US, putting it together is the easy part?

By the way, congratulations on selling it.

I think Jerome qualifies for the title of Grand Master Enabler ;)
