Namibia flights

I thought that there was only one passport control that you pass through and then onto your other flight if catching another one.

We went through a passport control area then to pick up our rifles then to the SAP's office and finally back up to the ticketing agent to recheck our bags. Our escorts left us when we went back through security.
There is also an international in transit control.

So you were on a domestic SA flight? Not an international flight.

Has anyone ever seen a passport control like at JNB anywhere else in the world? For anyone who does not know what we are talking about at JNB when you land and are catching a flight that day to another country such as Namibia or Zim you have to go in a line and get your passport stamped and off you go to your gate or the lounge if you have a layover of any length. (JNB has several pay lounges that I really like)
I’ve transited other countries and never had this happen.

My second flight was withing SA but we hit the passport control just as we came out of the concourse after exiting the plane. I didn't see any other one for international flights. We were still in the secure area where you could then head up to your other flight if you didn't have to clear SAP's.

Once you deplane you either go right to passport control or stay left where the sign says international flights. that is where you would go to intransit control.

Is there any JFK to Frankfurt flights? If so go to Frankfurt and then take the direct flight to Windhoek from there.
I went through Frankfurt twice to Namibia, 2013 and 2016. Zero complaints.

Any time I have looked at going through Frankfurt it was at least double the price of other routes. You too, or are you finding it competitive?

So if transiting Joberg with a firearm, and you have an international connection the same day, you don’t have to exit the concourse, do SAPS, then re-enter? I was under the impression anyone with a gun had to claim and recheck in Joberg.

If your not staying in SA for an over night or hunt you do not need a SAPS permit. Your baggage and gun should be checked right thru to Namibia, Zim whatever. You do not exit the concourse you simply stay to your left to where it says international connections.

I come from Alaska, so it was competitive for me. First year ('13) it was down and across the US to Phili, then Frankfurt, Windhoek. second trip ('16) it was down to Seattle, over the top to Frankfurt, Windhoek.Perhaps DC flights aren't as accomodating with Frankfurt.

Not sure, in '11 I left Dallas to Detroit to Paris, to Joberg etc. This year, Missoula, to Seattle to Dubai, to Joberg to Windhoek. Might have to look at it as as 2 tickets rather than one long itinerary.

Has anyone had recent experience traveling with firearms/ammo on Air Namibia from JNB up to WDH?
Anything new to be aware of? It has been a few years since I used them with firearms.
