British Rancher mudured in Kenya

When did this happen? The story sounds like one from a year or so ago!

No don’t delete. It’s good to remind folks of the things that go in over there.
 
While this is a tragedy for the rancher, it is also the logical end result of the Kenyan ban on sport hunting. The ranches being invaded typicaly are large holdings set up to cater for the photo tourist trade. The local communities get very little in terms of jobs or income. Tolerable in the good times but add in drought and trouble will follow. No people are going to see their families starve while vast amounts of land are set aside for non-productive wildlife. Hunting on the other hand employs far more local people. Communities begin to see that they have an on going stake in the operation. Wild life are seen as an income generating resource, one that they directly benefit from and are willing to defend.
