Hunting Attire for Women

Trying not to play this woman card too much, but I just have so many questions!

After lots of internet searching and finding few answers, I have decided to use a lifeline and ask the audience. I get cold really easily, particularly my hands, so I am looking for a hunting jacket that will prevent my hands from going numb.

I have settled on that I will eventually have to break down and purchase a Sitka Fanatic Jacket for myself. Until I have an infinite budget to spend on hunting gear and trips, however, I am in search of the warmest hunting gear for women at the most reasonable price. Again, I get cold SUPER easily.

Anyone have any experience, recommendations, etc. on which brands have worked for y'all and your family members in the past?

My wife gets those heating packets and sticks them inside her gloves in her palm area of the hand and they stay warm for hours. Very cheap

Wear a muff around your waist and put a hand warmer in it. You can use light gloves and stay warm.

I can recommend Sitka and Kuiu wholeheartedly! But it does make my butt look fat, wait it is! Cabelas has some very warm clothing as well at a much reduced cost and it wears well.
I would recommend staying away from THIS!

I may have been accused of attempting to make my first African hunt a fashion show, but I wouldn't be caught DEAD in something like that. Thank goodness I do have a decent amount of self-respect.

Depending on time you go it may be a pretty decent temperature..My wife and I both get by fine over there with light gloves..The humidity should be a lot lower than Tenn. so cold is not near as bad..Weather is opposite of US during our summer months...Military bdu's work great for hunting there and are tough with plenty of pockets..ask outfitter what they recommend..

I should add that they make clothing dedicated for women as well as men. Their web site is not as user friendly as it could be, so you will have to look around.

Try looking at Prois for women. I suggest several light layers you can remove as the day warms, also more practical for other hunts

My wife also feels the cold all the time but she has worked out a system for keeping herself warm.
The trick she uses is to layer her garments to suit the different levels of cold.
On our trip to Africa last year we had temperatures between 30F - 60F (-1C to 15C) most days with a cold breeze blowing.
My wife has been using for the last few years the Swazi brand of clothing from New Zealand.
The Kiwi's make some good quality garments to suit their alpine hunting.
She uses the "Leithen Skivvy" as a base layer over her underclothes followed by their "Twin Peaks" top as a mid layer.
She tops this off with the Swazi "Straight Jacket" as a windproof jacket and then adds a scarf.
We both use the sporting gloves by Sealskinz.
These gloves are relatively thin and are windproof, waterproof and insulated.
The thumb and index finger tips on both hands can be folded back so you can use your fingers for taking a shot.
The tips are held back in place by magnets sewn into the gloves so they don't get caught on things.
She also uses the heating packets in the pocket of her jacket to help keep her hands warm when she needs a warm up.
We have also have learnt to avoid the use of cotton base layer tops next to your skin.
Use the micro fleece base layers to wick any moisture away and trap the warmth.

Not sure where you’re talking about hunting? I live, hunt in Colorado. It may or may not be cold during any of our big game seasons, thus layers!
IMO, Merino wool next to my skin is most comfortable and doesn’t get stinky. My favorite. Pull over long sleeve top and bottoms.
Next layer a pullover fleece 1/4 zip that can open or cover my neck. Or wool button shirt.
Next a vest of wind proof fleece and light wool or quiet synthetic fleece pants.
Next 3 options: 1) soft hooded quiet windbreaker, 2) insulated quiet jacket if colder, 3) soft hooded rain jacket and pants if wet
All camo or neutral colored. We have to were 750 square inches of hunter orange outside of all.
Hands: I have tactical gloves for warmer weather. Fleece glove liners with waterproof mittens for colder weather. Heavy military mittens with wool liner gloves.
Light wool neck gator. Heavy fleece gator. Light wool knit skull cap and heavy fleece skull cap.
Feet: heavy wool socks with thin poly liners. Boots are well worn and broken in. Currently insulated Danner 8” duty boots. They are working well. I also carry a pair of none insulated all leather Merrel hikers.
So, if you’re looking for brands of each, they are pretty much all the same. I find the current top two brands (Sitka and Kuiu) over priced and too tight and I’m a small guy. I have some of each. I prefer my clothes loose fitting. I find it warmer.
I’m a retired engineer and life long experimenter, nerd. The best things I have found are actually at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. I wear them for the hunt and then throw them away.

I’ve heard the rumors, but I’ve never actually seen the deer costume pics.

My sister is getting in to hunting. She is athletic, but gets cold quickly. I am a big fan of kuiu clothing mixed with Patagonia. I would suggest looking at the kuiu down coat or synthetic puffy coat. My sister uses the synthetic puffy kuiu coat and was pleased with it. ALWAYS buy the one with the hood!

In colder weather I will wear a Patagonia down jacket and Patagonia down vest under my kuiu hunting jacket.
The nice thing about using Patagonia stuff is it doubles for skiing and other sports.
Also, late winter season sales in clothing stores usually have discounted merino wool sweaters (think Macy’s) As a layer, it doesn’t matter how crazy the sweater pattern is, as long as it is good merino wool.
