Offshore Drilling Rush Could Transform South Africa

Large, world class natural gas discoveries have been made in the last 5-8 years offshore of Tanzania and Mozambique. Some of these projects are already in development stage and will start putting money into government coffers within the next few years. It will be interesting to see if these two countries handle the new found wealth in a wise way. The track record in most countries where game changing wealth occurs is that a few politicians become some of the riches people in the world.

I hope that the benefits are not squandered.

My expectations are quite low. I expect that the leaders will enrich themselves until ultimately squandering the opportunity for the nation. TIA.

Hmmm...maybe I need to start applying for a job with Total.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought "hmm doing the 28 on 28 off shift in RSA might not be half bad. Company paid business class flights depending on the company, and you would already be in country to hunt.

You would definitely need to enlarge the trophy room. :ROFLMAO:

@Hogpatrol I mean that "overseas" work generally means more money, so the bigger trophy room/trophy house would be easier to attain. Unless I spent it all on guns/optics/ammo & hunts. :E Rofl:
Literally while we were over there, I was like hmm the company I work for has operations on this continent....wonder what the transfer potential looks like. Then I remember I don't speak any foreign languages, and I'm a female (not exactly a hospitable environment in some parts of the continent for sassy females).

I did 28/28 in Angola for 5 years. That's how I went hunting in Namibia and got me hooked on safari.

Any geoscientists here? As a recent PhD graduate I have been struggling to find any meaningful employment in energy/oil etc.

Was on the geoscience side but now in Economics. What's your PhD in and from where?

Interesting! I have an undergrad in economics (BEcon) then went into geoscience (BSc, MSc and PhD).

PhD in unconventional gas and geothermal potential from the Main Karoo Basin in South Africa. PhD here in the UK.

I work for the Norwegian oil/gas company Equinor (former Statoil..). We are trying to get a deal with Tanz government along with Exxon to start building an onshore gas plant near Lindi to produce the offshore gas. Thus far we have used about 1 billion USD along with Exxon and have yet to strike a deal (I guess that will take a loot of greasing..).....and given the astronomical corruption level in Tanz I am no longer optimistic...but we shall see

Think of all of the hunt reports this forum will be showered with! Jerome will have to appoint a Hunt Report Czar to manage them!

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
