A curious question. Has any one here ever actually seen a 6 bore Double rifle ?
I have , to date only seen two 6 bore rifles : One was WW Greener's one of a kind 6 bore Cartridge Double rifle which Currently resides in Zimbabwe.
The other was an old 6 Bore Muzzleloading rifle which fired a belted ball.
If anyone has ever had any experience with ( or even seen ) any 6 bore double rifles , please do enlighten me. They can ( and probably will ) be muzzleloaders or cartridge guns .
Thank you all.

No, is the short answer. But there is a 6 bore single for sale on a major on line auction site. It is a smooth bore, but with front and rear sights, so not designed as a fowler......I encourage someone to buy it, take it on an elephant hunt, and file a report....:).....FWB

I would google John Hipwell, 8 bore Manton Rifle. He did a Safari with it and there was a article in African Hunter Vol.17.
John is a pretty good guy. If you should wish to contact him, he owns a firearms distribution company in Canada, pretty easy to find online. (Wolverine Supplies)

Hope this helps
Regards
Pat

I think I saw one in person at DSC, but I can't remember the booth.

There's a picture of one on page 92 of Pierre van der Walt's African Dangerous Game Cartridges (I highly recommend this booth). It's a "Holland & Holland 8-bore once owned by Sir Gerald Burrard DSO,RA."
I found this:

The same image is on page 57 of this article.

EDIT: Sorry that's an 8-bore and you were asking about 6-bores!

Most “4 bore” rifles, you’ll find, are actually 6 bores. There are far fewer true 4 bores than 6’s.

A friend of mine built a 4 bore single barrel percussion gun a couple years ago. Never has shot it. It would be a handful--only weighs about 18 lbs.

For what it's worth, I have a 7 bore percussion rifle by John Krider of Philadelphia circa 1860. Wonder if it ever made it to Africa, but should have. Not exactly a deer rifle for Pennsylvania!

There is a 6-bore double in my book, The British Bore Rifle. It lives in Zimbabwe. Most 4s were actually 5s with a bore diameter of .970". All of my 4s have been so. A 6-bore is .919" and quite uncommon. Large 8-bores are actually a 7 with a bore diameter of .875 (although I the largest 8 I have seen had a bore of .888".

He owns or owned a few 8 bore doubles he had a really nice one for sale for the longest time. Idk what is to become of the big bore stuff here is Canada with the new 20mm and over ban.

I know that I will not be giving up any of my firearms to our Dictator, Justin Castro Truedope. They can’t arrest us all. If no one turns them in then there is nothing they can do.

I dont own anything but my 2 pistols as far as the government is concerned
Me neither!

I always wanted an 8 bore either a muzzleloader or a cartridge gun.
if I built a muzzle loader it would have been smooth bore the twist for an 8 bore ball is so slow it wouldn't matter much anyway and then I could shoot shot/buckshot aswell. But those dreams are gone

I don't know either, but if it is antique, shouldn't be a problem under current rules? If it was recently made, but to a good standard, it might not be immediately obvious it was not antique.

Who was the Canadian from the northwest who built his own double rifle. I think it was cartridge, but black powder. It was a work of art. I have the article somewhere, but it is a few computers back, so hard to find.

Oh yes wasn't that awesome work by John Miller, as good as any proper maker !!

I have a WR 8 bore ML double - very cool old rifle - probably went to India after it was born, rather than Africa.
