.450 Rigby

Have you even pulled the trigger on one round just to test the feel of it? If not, how can you sleep? Hahaha!

Believe me, I want to light this thing up!!

I've been eyeballing a Sako 85 Brown Bear in 450 Rigby myself. They run $2500 new, so I doubt I can think of a good enough reason as to why I NEED it. But, I sure do like the looks of it! And since I sold my 470 Merkel, and several other 458 Win Mags over the years, I've kind of missed having a 45 plus caliber rifle. Nothing but puny 416 and 375 rifles in my safe now!

Nice! Was hoping you could report on how it shoots. Get out there and blast away and let me know how it goes!

I knew I had one as well. Here it is.
Have some loads worked up for 550 gr Wood @ 2300 FPS and 500 gr barns @2450 to 2500 FPS but the data is far away..

Recoil is stiff, but I also changed out the recoil pad as the Sako pad is like a brick.

at first I wanted to buy a Sako carbon light in 9.3x62
but the recoil on this rifle at 6 pounds and with a 286 gr bullet is almost the same has the 450 rigby
so bought the rigby

I find the rifle quite heavy
will see when hunting moose with it if its to heavy I will get that carbon light at least it will be light

I have the Brown Bear in .450 Rigby. I am not man enough for the 500 grain barnes at 2500 though. Highest I have gone is 2400. Great gun, took a nice buffalo with it this year.

It's funny how another 100 or 200 fps seems to bring an exponential level of recoil pain, even though the math doesn't support it. In my 500 Jeffery shooting 570g TSX's, 2300 fps is fine, 2400 is a little painful, 2500 fps is friggin unbearable.

Couldn't agree with you more.

That is what I like most about the .450 cartridge, you can load it up like a .458 or you can load it like a .460 weatherby. I land somewhere in the middle. If you hand load, it gives you the option to decide how much power you want while balancing how much recoil you can tolerate. It's also unique which makes it more fun for me personally. A friend once told me "never buy a .375, you'll never have a good excuse to buy another rifle"

I use the Hornady 350gr FN (45/70 bullet) for plinking in my 450 Rigby.
