In most centerfire rifles and shotguns, you'd have to dry fire it every day, many times a day, for months to incur damage. That said, that's what they make "snap cap" cartridges for. If you're really going to dry fire a bunch, get a set.

Strongly suggest 7mm-08 Remington Analogous to 7x57 but more "modern" in my opinion. Took greater kudu, gemsbok, impala two years ago in South Africa with 7-08. Took a big elk 5 years ago with .30-06 in Colorado but I have become a recoil wimp in my old age. 7-08 shoots well, not much recoil; I am well satisfied with mine. Works fine on deer and wild hogs ass well.

@Waterbuck2008 where do you get these snap cap cartridges. I would definitely be interested in getting some of those just to make sure I don't do any unintentional damage.

I bought my sister a 7mm-08. She is an excellent shot with it. My Young son hunts with a 6.5 creedmore. The two calibers are more alike than different in my opinion. The more modern recoil pads are significantly better.

Any one that you like take to a competent gunsmith and have him adjust fit for you.
A properly fitted firearm is a pure joy.

nursefet,
you can buy special cartridges called snapcaps for dry firing.
they might also be used as a safe way to combine dry firing with working the action if you have enough to fill the mag.
you will certainly damage a rimfire by dry firing.

I use the A-Zoom in all my rifles. Also my shotguns. They work well.

Does this not depend on the Woman?
One size does not fit all!

One size does not fit all!

I was looking for any advice y'all wanted to send my way. I'm still learning the ropes of this world, so if you have anything else to add to what has already been said, I'm all ears!

The lady in the photo seems to be carrying a side by side double rifle. That usually means quite substantial bullets and, accompanying the substantial bullets, sufficient recoil. There are women who have learned to use such artillery without getting hurt in the process.

This particular male has not (yet?) tried such a piece, so the outcome is open to speculation ;)

Perttime,
You mean that you do not recognize Cindi Garrison?
She has her own TV show and hunts and fishes worldwide.
Those DR cartridges on her belt could be .470 NE.

I just love this.

With all due respect the lady asks a relative vague suggestion for a rifle suggestion & 117 posts follows with some really great advice! I have to admit I didn't read all of them, since to me its mostly a fit & comfort choice for now, as you get more accustomed to the hobby, your perception will change & your requirements will differ.
BTW secretly all men wished their better half would show the slightest interest in shooting, never mind hunting!

In my household, I'm outnumbered 3 to 1. a feisty 40 something KG, 1.53M ruler of the house & two miniature replicas. Fortunately they participate in the fun.
You are in a very fortunate position, a huge amount of gents will gladly offer you the opportunity to fire a round or two with their rifles if they know you are testing the water for a specific make or caliber.

The Blonde went through a similar scenario, and ended up "inheriting "two rifles from my dad (.243 & 6.5x55) just because she is the only daughter with an interest in rifles & couldn't say which of the two she actually preferred after a day at the range! She initially had her mind set on a .223 which she is deadly accurate with & shot an impala with, then a 7.62x39 after firing one at the gun shop / indoor range. (we actually bought it, but she wants a shotgun now instead!)
She has fired a few rounds with different calibers and makes from the .308 right up to a 9.3x64 in the meantime. We are planning a walk & stalk hunt for larger African game this year & she still making up her mind...

My advice: Ask as many questions as you need to, try out as many types & calibers as you can, consider the type of environment & species you plan to hunt before making up your mind. But most importantly, have fun!

I have attached a few pictures of the rifle I ended up choosing. They’re a little rough, but the best I could do. Blaser R8 Professional Success .308WIN
