here are some thoughts based on my own history.
when i was young i found the 308 recoil a little difficult to get used to, as do most beginners.
it makes hold, trigger control, and follow through more difficult to come to grips with.
these things must be ingrained into the subconscious to be a successful hunter, allowing the conscious to focus on other things.
if you have access to an air rifle or a 22 rimfire, firing thousands of rounds with such can be of grea advantage.
another help is dry firing your 308 daily in a meaningful way, taking particular care to know where the crosshair was when the firing pin fell.
this is called calling your shot.
and keep aiming after firing pin fall. this is called follow through.
if your rifle has interchangeable barrels, a next step would be to purchase a 223 barrel and shoot that a lot
some of this shooting could be varmint shooting, which is a good introguction to hunting in many ways.
i will not say good luck, because shooting is about putting in the work to get the reward.
