Hi to all comrades in arms. I am a Namibian and South African citizen. I was born, with a gun in hand, and raised on a farm in the north-western part of Namibia known as Damaraland. I now life, part time, in South Africa. I have hunted in various countries including the US and Canada. I collect famous fire arms, being arms that are famous by Make; Design, Function, Tradition or Calibre. The corner stone of my collection being the Mannlicher Schoenauer rifle. Of which I have all models and only short a few calibres, which are hard to find in South Africa.

Welcome Sarel!

Seral, welcome to AH! I’d really enjoy seeing some pictures of your Mannlichers?
What is your favorite game to hunt and I’ll bet you have a good story about one of your hunts?

Thanks guys for making me feel welcome: What are my favorite game to hunt? I was 9 years old when I hunted my 1st Kudu bull, all by myself, using a .303 with FMJ bullets. I have shot plenty since, however up to this day, 60 years later, the Kudu still remains my holy grail of hunting, albeit in the propper way of walk-and-stalk. Stories I have a plenty but putting them to paper is time consuming. For those who are interested, contact me by email and I will let you have a article on the Mannlicher Schönhauer which I wrote for our local Magnum/Man magazine.

Here is a pic of some of my MS. (ignore the 2 drillings)

Welcome and thank you for sharing your collection photos

Oh my Seral! Fine collection! I love drillings as well though. There are some members on AH that are going to be really envious of your collection, me included!

I have to agree that kudu are magnificent animals!

Thanks for sharing the picture!

Welcome to AH!

What a fantastic welcome, I already feel at home. (Gert, goed om jou hier te sien).

I will post some pic’s, one at a time with a few words just to give some explanation of the relevant circumstances. This one shows me “The Great White Hunter” (haha) with a nice Kudu bull shot with 30-06 Mannlicher Schönhauer MC personally bought from Rock Island Auction house and imported into SA. Loaded with 220 grain Sierra Game King RN bullets and our local powder to 2500 ft/s.

It all happened within the blink of an eye. When distance allows, Kudu will run once human movement is detected. However, very often they rely on their excellent camouflage and will hide to the very last moment before fleeing. In this instance, we drove within a few yards, past the bull in hiding and I only saw him in passing from the corner of my eye and dropped him before he could break cover. Such instant shooting was made possible by the short, light and perfectly balanced MS. Note, the broken horn was and old injury.
