That’s the only thing I see wrong with it. Still a 13.5k gun ...

Nice side by side!

How do you guys like the Kreighoff action? It seems people either love or hate the combi cocking feature. It seems very safe to carry, but not sure about snap shooting with it if needed.

I like mine, I cock it while raising the rifle into the shoulder as one would with traditional safety. Quick to get used to. Mine’s got selective ejectors/extractors. Break the rifle cocked and it ejects, break it uncocked and it extracts. I’ve got 470 N.E. and 9.3x74R barrels and enjoy both.

Perfect German engineering. I like mine. Not sure why anyone wouldn’t want a safety that actually works?
All these used ones have extractors instead of ejectors for some reason. It was the same last year when I was buying mine. I could have bought several for really good prices if I had settled for extractors. Note to self: if you buy a double and want a good resale value on it get ejectors!
I know it has been done to death but why would you want to be fiddleing around with the spent shells if a DG animal is bearing down on you?
Regards,
Philip

I hope to own a double someday hopefully not in the too distant future. And kicking myself for not buying a display model Krieghoff up here for 10k. Can’t find one close to that in price now.

As to your question, in all my reading for extractors and ejectors, guys talk about the noise ejectors make while hunting elephant if you’re close to a herd.

Myself, I’d choose ejectors

To me ejectors are essential when reloading a for a charging animal... I spent the day getting acquainted with my new Heym .500NE over a sensible lunch consisting of 20 rnds. of 570gr DGX Hornady bullets... all I can say is wow... what a gun.. and remarkable accurate.. my best 2 consecutive quick succession shots were withing an inch at 50yrds... just a great rifle. I want another one to go with it!!

Being an engineer, I research and analyze issues, sometimes too extensively. But not when spending a significant sum of money, making a once in a lifetime purchase, or buying a firearm, the function of which can affect life and limb. In the case of the purchase of a DR, all three issues are involved. Well, maybe not the "once in a lifetime" issue. I have 2 Blaser R8's with several barrels and find the dock/decock mechanism intuitive after only a few days at the range, shooting mostly off hand and from sticks. The R8 remains in fire mode after each cycling of the bolt to place a live round in battery, allowing quick follow up shots. The S2 automatically de-cocks after breaking the action, requiring one to reload, close the action and re-cock the firearm to fire. While the Blaser cocker increases the safety of the R8 significantly, I did not like the automatic safety of the S2 and I especially do not like the hood on the rear of the S2 barrels and worry that they will interfer with a reload under pressure. Regarding ejectors vs extractors, I see the value of ejection but also value stealth and feel that a DR can be quickly unloaded by maintaining a slightly upward tilt of the barrels. I value stealth but have no problem if another desires ejection. After all this I chose a Krieghoff 470 NE because of design, fit and finish, dependability and safety.

I agree with you, I own 2 R8 rifles and decided to go with the heym 88BPH. I own 2 heyms one in .500NE, and the other in .470. On my .500NE .
I never cared for the S2. Both my heyms are ejectors.

Welll said sir. When contemplating the purchase of my 470 NE I found that some folks are adamant about ejectors...”You have to have them for dangerous game” some said. Well I listened and started asking more questions. I went on safari and asked my PH what he thought. He picked up his double which is A Blaser 500 NE and we walked away from a few others just a few yards. He loaded the rifle and had it on safe. Then he took two more rounds and held them between the fingers of his left hand which he then supported the barrels with as he aimed at a tree not to distant from where we stood. He fired both barrels rather quickly and with a quick motion brought the rifle down from his should but as you describe keeping the barrels elevated. He broke the breach open and slightly rotated the rifle counter clockwise, barrels still up, and the two spent shells fell out. As fast as you could say WOw he had two rounds from his left hand chambered and the breach closed. The rifle was right back on his shoulder and two more shots rang out. Now frankly I’m not sure that with my bolt action that I would have even been fully ready to fire the second round in the time that he fired four. As Pieter said to me “ With a little practice and proper technique....you don’t have to have ejectors. They are nice but not absolutely necessary.” We walked over to the tree which was probably thirty yards and all four rounds would fit in about a four inch circle.
Enough said and demonstrated for me. Now when the opportunity presented itself to buy my Merkel it didn’t have ejectors so I wasn’t put off by the prospect as I had seen first hand someone who performed very well with a similar system. So to my way of thinking as with all matters related to rifles of any kind and shooting......Practice Practice Practice......and you can become proficient.
When hunting elephant both professional hunters had double rifles, in fact one of them was exactly the same model Merkel that I have now, and neither of them had ejectors. But I was well aware of the stance and the readiness of Pieter when I took my shot. Video now clearly shows that he was ready to execute in a real DG hunt situation exactly what he would demonstrate to me two years later.
Like you if somebody feels they really want the ejectors on a double....ok fine by me. Don’t think I’m going to need them. I’m going to practice a lot....which is why others here on AH are helping me to learn reloading. I should get pretty good with letting the spent shells just fall out of the rifle.
