Suggested 9.3mm Wildcat

@450 Dakota I looked them up and sent them a email. My question is how do you rate the work they did for you. and what are you seeing as performance vs a 9.3x62?

Kevin has built 4 rifles for me and did work on a couple of others. I would not hesitate to use him again at all. He will stand behind his work. You are going to gain significant fps over the 9.3 x 62. Look at the data for a 375 Ruger with 260 grain Accubond and that is about what you will get for a 250 grain 9.3 in the 375 case but better BC & SD.

A number of years ago John Barsness/Charlie Sisk put together the .360BS (.350 Rem mag case necked up to .366 dia). Wrote up a piece in Handloader if anyone’s interested.
 
it seems that the BS is about equivalet to the 9.3x62, and useable in a 308 length magazine.
my original suggestion of a 9.3 on the 338 mag case was similar in concept, but to have an equivalent of the 9.3x64 with more readily available brass.
i was not chasing super ballistics, just a 9.3x64 equivalent.
for me the x64 is a good balance of power, recoil, and terminal performance with the right bullet.
if you already have a 9.3x64 and cannot get brass, a good gunsmith could machine the chamber to accept a belt, and away you go with a boltface modification.

I was going to suggest a 9.3 based on the RUM case but the 404 is almost the same as the RUM is a basically blown out 404.
 
The B&M cartridge folks also do a 9.3 on a shortened 300 RUM that fits into a short action with it's ballistics just above a 9.3x62 but just under a x64 if my memory serves me.

I keep coming back to the 375ruger to 9.3 as a very possible idea

Dave, I was the PH guiding the creator of the 9.3 B&M when it was first used on Buffalo in Australia.
We shot several buff with the cartridge and although it got the job done it is not exactly my idea of what a buff cartridge should be.

For any game thinner skinned it is an exceptional cartridge/rifle platform and my all-time second best favorite amongst the B&M stable of cartridges (after the .500 MDM).
Balistically it is virtually identical to the 9.3x64mm in performance, if not slightly better but packed in a much lighter, and smaller, package.

i would suggest it is about equal to 9.3x66 sako revised loads, or halfway between x62 and 64.
it seems to give a 286 gn bullet about 2550, whereas the x 64 can take that bullet over 2600 safely.
not much in it though.

@crs I most certainly have that double(y) but on occasion I do find a bolt gun handy.
@PaulT I have one of the 458B&M's @PHOENIX PHIL fault I might add:cool: I really like the series of rounds but if I am going to do another wildcat it will have to be something that gives me more than my x62 by a wide margin.
@bruce moulds Love my 9.3x74 double and x62 mauser. Really don't need another med bore but have a action in my safe that could be something.
 
So now that we have all the 9.3 Pros online I have a question. I have been playing with loads for my 9.3x62. I have shot factory PRVI 286gr. and been reloading with 270gr. Speer, 286gr. Hornady and 286 Nosler Partition. Have been using RL 15 & 22, H414 H4350 and a couple of the IMR powders. All have shot close to the same point of impact even the 270gr. was only about 3" high. Also shot Nosler Safari and Custom. Both shoot to the same point of impact. So today I tried some Varget and the 286NP. Group was good but point of impact was 15" high. Any ideas.
 
The Privi's are loaded kinda light in my rifle it crono's at 2255. What was the velocity of your varget load?

In the 9.3x62 I have the best results with RL-17 and Ramshot Big Game powders. will have to check my range notes for the loads. I have been shooting 286 and 300gr Aframes. Working on a load for 320gr woodleighs
Have also used 250gr Accubon's with good results

Newton did the same thing with his 35 Newton by moving the neck forward.
My own 25 has had the neck moved forward, the case blown out and a 35 degree shoulder angle. This is easy with a rimmed case but a lot more difficult with a rimless

I think the same way. Only difference is I like geriatric oddballs. Doesn't trip my trigger unless it is over 100 years old. Extremely satisfying to resurrect them from the grave.
