What are they up to now?

There are other options

Stayed there in 2010, it was a something of landmark for hunters at one time. In latter years it was needing some changes. I've nothing bad to say about it however. In the same neighborhood is Africa Sky Guesthouse that also comes well recommended.

I have not stayed at Afton, but I’ve stayed at AfricaSky and City Lodge. I believe City Lodge will be my choice if I overnight in JNB again.

Last time I was there was November 2016 and I hated it. I had stayed there a couple times and was never impressed but thought it went backwards.

I would use Africa Sky again but might stick with Henry @riflepermits.com for his service. My permits were in a case that got stolen and Africa Sky could not or would not put effort in to email copies of permits they had done for me. Got hold of Henry and his people got us all set and helped me through to get my rifles back home and make the flight on time.

But Africa Sky had better accommodations and meals. Seemed much more professional on that part.

Seems it increases $25.00 per year for a room since it was sold two years ago...double room is now $150.00 per night....nothing had changed in facility or services when I was ther last year from the previous three years except ownership. Curious if anyone had noticed any changes since last year when I was there in June 2018.

I have stayed at Afton and I too can say wasn't bad but I prefer Intercontinental as it is across the street from terminal and restaurant Quills is excellent. Also stay at Safari Club was nice but requires shuttle . Intercontinental and City Lodge do not ,

I have stayed at both Afton and Africa Sky. I had good experiences at both places, but I would choose Africa Sky on a return trip. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Africa Sky for the rifle permit with a meet and greet, first class service.

I agree the meet and greet service with rifle permits was excellent, as was their lodging and meals, and hospitality.

It was when I had the shit hit the fan that they were no help and Henry was. That 1% type of a thing.

Stayed at Anton house in 2013 and 2018 had very good service both times lots changed in 5 years the vip meet and great with rifle permits well done lodging clean and welcome site after 20 hrs traveling and breakfast made to order for us. A safe clean and well looked after property my wife and I plan on using again in 2020.

Used Afton safari lodge last year for our first safari. Heading back later this year and staying with them again. The meet and greet was a great service. Signing up for the steak dinner again. Didn’t experience any problems or complaints .

Had a 12 hour lay over when we arrived in JHB, phoned African Sky and they arranged a pick up, day room and lunch for us. Nice shower and a proper bed for a few hours does amazing things. Won't hesitate to use them again. Gilbert has collected and delivered us 5 times now, also drives us around when we do a day trip before we leave SA.

Gilbert and Queen are both awesome! Really hard working, friendly and motivated. Delightful individuals really.
Sadly, my experience with AfricaSky also included dealing with one not so stellar individual which kind of soured me on the place.

Gilbert and Queen are awesome. Willard has taken great care of us as well. The owners are absolutely outstanding folks. He played for the Blue Bulls and the Springboks. A stout lad to be sure!

Just had a overdue hunt debrief with clients that hunted SA late last year. We had as always booked their stay at Africasky well in advance, the all inclusive package with 2 days of guiding. Clients added 2 extra days to see JHB and Pretoria. They arrived in JHB on Sunday, all good with the meet and greet. Arrive at AS and they can't find the booking for the clients or the guide, clients phone us we phone and mail AS to no avail. We have confirmation emails from Leoni at AS that all is good and guides are arranged. Clients stay at the lodge the whole of Sunday, one day wasted. Turns out there is no hot water, clients get to use another shower, pipes are leaking water all over the bathroom. Till today no reply or apology to the clients or us and we send 10+ clients a year their way. Always supported them can't do that anymore. May have to give Afton House a try too.

I’ve stayed at Africa Sky twice. Both were great experiences. Everything from greeting me at the airport and getting my guns from SAPS, to the food and rooms, to getting me to the airport, to getting me checked in and my guns checked back in with SAPS.

Afton is getting expensive...
