9.3x62 load

Talking about lighter bullets for the 9,3x62, the first big game animal I got with mine was a Red Deer in May this year. I use the FOX 220 grs bullet. A monometalic one made in Slovenia. Not pure cooper, but gilding metal more like the Hornady GMX. I load his FOX bullet (the only weight and type they make in 9,3 mm), at 2800 f/s with RWS cases, WLR primers and R15. It is the best accuracy performer in my rifle! I got that Red Deer and a wild boar next day. Perfect performance, as I like: compleat penetration and a big exit hole. I can recomend this bullet without any reservations! Sighting dead center at 200 meters this load is around 7 cm high at 100 meters and 25 cm low at 300 meters. I don't need nothing else.

when you consider all the other costs involved in a hunt, and the preparation and thought that goes into it, good bullets are cheap.
a "bang-flop kill" makes it all worth while.
here in oz guys have a definite aversion to expensive bullets, and just keep using the cheapest they can get.
they have never seen the difference a good bullet makes.
there is a saying about people who keep doing the same thing and expecting different results and it alludes to their intellect.
bruce.

Thanks I will look into those FoX bullets
I might have to Outside the states. Thanks

I would be very interested in 165gr or 180gr .308 dia Fox Bullets,

Me too bruce and SGT.
2600 FPS with 250 AB sounds good

Here is some Western Powders data on 9.3x62. Can't remember where I got this (obviously from Western Powders, but can't remember the link where I got it). Proceed with caution.

If you're comfortable with the kind of data that Woodleigh provides, this data shouldn't be a problem for you.

zim,
it looks like you can bring the x62 up a notch, but must do so by very careful powder selection.
this is a job for those who go deeply into such matters only.
some of those fastest loads approach my x64 loads which are not quite max, but make me feel comfortable and are powerful enough.

I'm running the 286 PPU SP for deer this year. 65 grains of big game gives me 2500 fps from a 22 1/2" barrel. Also using PPU brass. Believe I got some of this data from John Barnes over on 24 hour campfire forums. There is alot of 9.3x62 data over there.

The only bullet for which I'd have an interest in pushing it is NAB. I'm quite comfortable at 2420 with the published Hornady load for their 286 and 2000MR.

For all the other 286 and the Swift 300, I'll be happy at 2300 plus maybe a little bit.

you are looking for trajectory?
bruce.

Yep, only for that one bullet, since it's the highest BC and will reliably expand down to about 1800 fps. That's enough juice for as far as I can ethically shoot.

well, that's what Nosler says. Range reports seem to confirm it. I expect the Hornady interlock will open up down at that velocity, too.

terminal velocity is relevent to expansion, but so is rifling twist.
however, twist is usually similar for a given chambering.
with the x 62 the problem is less excessive expansion at close range and more insufficient expansion as you push the distance.

where I do most of my hunting, shots rarely exceed 75 yards, and never exceed 125.

My interest in the 250 NAB is for elk and mule deer at higher elevation. At 2600 fps MV, it still has 2k fps at 600 yards up in the mountains. That said, I prefer to hunt. The sniping I'll save for the zombie apocalypse, with a rifle that's built for that purpose. ;)

And there's a chance I may be going to NZ for stag in 2020. I think the NAB could prove useful in the NZ Alps.

I’d like to know where you end up with this load. I’m waiting delivery of a Dakota Model 10 in 9.3x62, African profile with a 25” barrel. We are planning to be in Africa for all of August in 2019 with the 9.3 as my PG rifle and my Lott for buff and elephant. I’ll probably stick with AFrames but the BC on the NAB is intriguing.

wab,
while zim might find the nab to have benefits for the applications mentioned, i.e. pushing the range of the 9.3x62, on the sized game mentioned, your choice of the aframe will not be wrong.
for general use, and out to 300 yds, the b.c. difference will be unnoticed, but in all other ways the swift is a better bullet.
bruce.

I hear you Bruce. I’m an A-Frame addict myself. I use them in my 7x57, .375 and my wife’s 9.3x62. Just curious about a load that may stretch the bbl a bit for certain applications with the 9.3.

Scroll a little ways up the page. I've attached a data sheet from Western Powders using Ramshot Big Game for 9.3x62.

There are a boat load of dudes at 24hr campfire who swear by Big Game and the 9.3x62. I believe there are more than a few of them who've gone as high as 66gr of Big Game with Partitions. That's fine as far as it goes, but if I wanted general 375 performance, I'd have gotten a 375. As mentioned, I only have one application in mind for pushing NABs at 2550-2600. Otherwise, I'll be happy with NP, A-Frame, or Oryx at 2300 or so, even though I'm already getting 2400+ out of the Hornady 286 with 2000MR at less than Hornady's published max load, and with a longer COAL than what Hornady publishes for that load.

I'm in the middle of working up the loads for NAB with Big Game. I'll probably work up loads with 2000MR also, just for comparison. They're both ball powders, and load progression from Western is really close to load progression from Hornady, each with their respective published loads for Big Game and 2000MR.

Hornady starts the 2000MR and 286 at 51 grains, and goes to a max of 62.4
Western starts Big Game and 286 at 56 gr and goes to a max of 62

Western is indicating much higher velocities than Hornady is, though.

I've had the most success with the 250-grain Barnes TSX and TTSX with 58.5 grains of Varget. My Forbes 24B (rebarreled by Douglas) takes about ten rounds for the groups to stabilize. Once that occurs, I get five-shot one-hole groups with an average of 2,550 FPS. I also like the 285-grain Lupua Mega and 286-grain Partition with 58.5 grains of RL-15 with velocities around 2,475 FPS. I got great accuracy with the Lupua and Big Game. Due to it's spherical shape, an amount bounces out of the pan and all on to my reloading bench which is a little annoying.
