Whats wrong with the M700 Remington? Mine shoots factory ammo as good as any.
The CZ 550 are very heavy, so yes, try them all for fit (which is the most important).
I've taken 2 buffs and a lion with mine.

The .416 Rem Mag is the newest common caliber in Africa for DG. I suspect the .375 Ruger is headed there. Regardless the .416 RM hasn't replaced the .416 Rigby and I doubt the .375 Ruger will replace the .375 H&H.

It wasn't that long ago our choice in common production rifles was .375 H&H or .458 WM. Choices are not a bad thing.

Just don't tell that Dagga Boy he was shot by a Ruger instead of an H&H and maybe he won't get back up...

Bottom line - handle them all and see which one you like the best.

and than, do not try a R8.....because you never will sleep peacefully.

Winchester safari is a good choice (I have one).
You may not use it much but like pizza you can cut the quality til it’s like cardboard.

Most will tell you its the extractor on the Remington 700 that they dislike. Thats why its not a recommended DG gun. I have 2 in 375 HH and 1 in 416 Remington. All of mine have been converted. The 375s have PTG Sako style extractors and 416 has LSI M16 style extractor. I am confident in them for DG hunt

Bhfs, I trust the smiley face ment you were just kidding. I'm glad you have a sub MOA rifle because "only accurate guns are fun to shoot." The power of the scope just makes it a little easier to see your target especially at longer distances. BTW is that a Red Stag in your avatar?

Do you like tinkering? Do you want something to customise? Go the CZ550 and then save for an AHR pimp my rifle pack lovely!

If you don't have the time/skills/inclination then the Mod 70 is for you!

If its purely based on price... Weatherby vanguard

The 375 Ruger is an excellent round for all manner of game, but I do have one issue with what you stated.
Ammo availability is never a problem here...at home and in the US.
The issue is when your rifle shows up and your ammo does not, whether it be Africa, NZ or AUS.
Now do your think that you would be more likely find 375 Ruger or 375 H&H in a hunting camp?
I would put money on a cartridge that's been around for more than 100 years over one that's been around for 11.[/QUOTE=]

too many other things to worry about when you travel that far than to get hung up on " If your ammo doesn't arrive". The list of "what if's" can drive you into depression. I for one do not worry about it, if it happens then adapt and over come. I do know for a fact that if it does happen I can walk out of JNB and have ammo for my gun with in the hour as for the other locations you mentioned my 375 Ruger would not be going on those hunt as I have guns that are better suited for the critters in the locations.

Bhfs, is that a Red Stag in your avatar?

Yes that is the Red Stag I got in April 2017 on the South Island New Zealand.
My best trophy to date.
At 300 yards I had a 3” dot 8 inches high and with the 5 power scope the cross hairs covered the dot. Was real happy with the results when I went down to look at the target

Have a Kimber in 375 h&h and have a 1945 m70 375 h&h for 50 years. In todays world the Kimber is a good match for my old reliable m70. In fact I grab the Kimber more then my old friend.
Kimber weighs 8.5#. Carry it all day.

Hi again didn’t catch this part
Here is a different rifle at 300 14 power scope.
Shot four shots thought I only hit the target twice till I went down to the target I think the three were 1, 3 and 4 with the other one the second shot.

Bhfs300, IMHO it is the rifle not the scope that is responsible for sub MOA groups. Increasing the magnification on a rifle that groups 2 or 3 MOA will not make it a sub MOA shooter.

But being able to put the cross hairs in the middle of the dot each time and then shooting is better than covering a three inch dot and not knowing if you are high on it or low or left or right means the group isn’t going to be as good.

Bhfs, all true but MOA groups were being shot long before scopes were in common use.

I've shot 4" Groups at 300 yards with Redfield Sights but my eyes were a lot better then. They used to ask me to read the bottom line on the eye chart and I said "Copyright 1978". I'm still 20/10 with corrective lenses but focusing on the front sight and a small bull at 300 yards at the same time isn't that easy anymore.

...and never, NEVER under any circumstances let someone hand you a D'Arcy Echols & Co unless your bank account (and marriage) can handle the stress.

The rifle I have in .375 H&H is none of the 4 choices. But I have a Blaser R8 with 2 barrels: .375 H&H and .300 Win Mag. I sleep OK.

Hi BigSteve
Great combination would you be willing to give us the bottom line for that combination?
Tom

Sure why not. In round numbers and from recall, US$:

$8500 R8 Kilombero with .375 H&H safari grade barrel & Blaser case.
$2000 .300 Win Mag safari grade barrel
$2000 Zeiss Victory HT 1.5-6x42 scope
$2000 Zeiss Victory Diavari 4-16x50 scope

The scopes may have been a little less than that...but there's tax so it's close.

I'm thinking of getting another barrel in 30-06 or maybe a smaller caliber.
