Kiaora, from New Zealand.

I love Mordor, Mausers and Mountains.

I'm going to drown in debt soon - there's no shortage of fine safari rifles on display here. Time to buy another lotto ticket...

I wouldn't mind hunting Africa one day. But if I do; I'd want to do an unguided trip in the middle of nowhere...even if it amounts to a trophy rabbit. Or being eaten alive by alligators.

I'd prefer the rabbit.

Cheers.

Welcome aboard Frodo. What is Mordor, a tasty adult beverage perhaps? What's not to like about Mausers and Mountains? There are a number of Kiwis on AH, so you should feel right at home. What have you hunted in the past? What kind and caliber rifles do you own? Where are you located in New Zealand?

New Zealand is possibly one of the most beautiful and captivating places on the planet.

Mordor especially!

I am pretty sure that I will never be back simply cause the hour Glass has drained quite bit and it would kinda real my heart it I went to track down my Chi-Chi Peachies from days gone by to find out that they are dead......or worse, fat and ugly.:cool:

The first time I went in country we were warned by the nz government that there were possibly still cannibals in a small section of the north island.

Panned gold and shot animals for meat and export with a guy named Desmond Ward from the south island who also owned a junkyard and had to keep his stuff hidden from public view due to eye pollution laws and would sometimes discuss things with "The Wizard" in Christchurch. One of my team stayed and became a nz citizen. He lives in CC and his name is Dick Decker and if still alive he'd be about 80.

Your Avon River that was full of trout right in the middle of down town Chi-Chi was enough inducement to never leave and I loved jet boating in the glacier run offs.

I should have never left middle Earth.

Head to Florida if you want to chase Gators.

Welcome Frodo to AH! I truly enjoyed the 11 days I spent in Kiwi land! Absolutely beautiful!

Welcome to our place @Frodo from down here in South Otago

Welcome to AH !

Welcome!

With you on the Mausers!

Welcome aboard!

Cheers fellas.

I've actually met you @Von Gruff. You're the guy who made me fall in love with wood blue rifles. I bought the 7x57 off you (although stupidly sold it during a weak moment). I'm currently getting another Mauser put together in .270 win.

You're a great craftsman. I know art when I see it, and your work has got to be touched to be truly appreciated.

@Von S.

Dick Deaker?! The helicopter hunter? He's a wild venison recovery legend in NZ.

Agree with you on NZ being an awesome place. You're truly free as a hunter; with the vast public land available 365 days a year, you can hunt till you're sick of it. :)

@Shootist43,

Haha. ;D Mordor: It's a long story. Talk to my buddy Sam, he'll tell you all about it.

I've got a custom built on a 1909 Argentine action. Chambered in .270 win, walnut stock.

I enjoy backpack hunting in the alpine for Red Stags, Chamois and Tahr.

@africahunting

Wow. I'm going to do that one day...
Would be the ultimate adventure. Thanks. :)

Ok so Mordor is not an adult beverage. I just looked it up online. I'm not in to science fiction so I was and perhaps still am ignorant of the term. Von Gruff, how many 7 x 57s have you made and sold? I thought you currently have one.

Have done three now and have a VZ27 action at the gunsmith to be cleaned up, have the bolt done and trigger altered. There are two stock blanks in the corner (one is sort of pencilled in for a 30-06 open sighted stalker) so may end up doing another one although not sure yet. I do want to do another build but not for myself so will have to see what transpires.

Welcome to AH!
