338 RUM and 230 ELDX

Anyone have a good handload with the 230 ELDX in the 338 RUM ?

The people I’ve met with a RUM like to use heavier or monometalic bullets because you end up with over expansion at 338 RUM velocities. Not sure many people will be using this combo but good luck.

So far I’ve only taken game with the 225gr Swift A-frame in the .338 RUM, with great success. The next bullet I want to try is the Barnes 250gr LRX.
I’m not sure I’d trust a Hornady ELDX at short to moderate ranges. I’m guessing it would be humming along at around 3000 fps. I’m not sure it would hold up on tough game. I used a 250gr Sierra in a .338 Win mag at 2680 fps on a mule deer at 60 yds and it broke up on a lung shot.
Although I’ve never used an ELDXin any round, a .338 RUM wouldn’t be the one I’d try it in.

Yes I agree I have my reservations on using this bullet on moose. I normally use 225 A Frame in my 338 Win and 338 Rum. In my Rum I thought about the 225 TTSX and maybe give it a go. Have you ever tried Rhino Bullets? Looks very much like the old Trophy Bonded Bullet.

Well done some testing with Hornady ELDX in 178 ELDX and 200gr ELDX and the 230 ELDX I concluded I will never carry ELDX hunting the jacket is too soft but accuracy was good. They need to be bonded !
