Rifle case layout

I got my new pelican 3300 .. before cutting the foam I thought I share the layout with you guys .. any comments ?

That should work. However I'm curious how much foam will be protecting the rifles beneath the areas you will be cutting out?
 
My comment is Gorgeous rifles!
 
I would possibly push the rifles in towards the centre away from the edges of case, giving more foam between them and case edge!

Why the bolts and scope removed? I would keep them in and push the rifles a tad closer together.
Beautiful rifles and nice case.
I use a single rifle case, most foam removed and the rifles wrapped in a blanket. Need to upgrade....

I thought it was the norm to separate the bolt ?
If not than i do not need to separate the scope .
 
There is no real need to remove the bolt from the rifle.

However it has been recommended that you pack the bolt and rifle separately when you travel. That way if the rifles are stolen then they would be inoperable and need to be sent back to the factory to have a new bolt fitted. At least that is what I read many years ago and if you look at the rifle parts catalog they usually have a * on the bolts part number saying that it needs to be fitted at the factory.
 
Beautiful rifles! Agree with others on the bolt question, but it might be handy to have a slot for the bolts when travelling. I'm guessing the airlines are the ones requesting that bolts are packed away from the gun. But you're not always airborne. Of course, the bolts could be in the action in those instances, unless they protrude too much, and the depth of the case is a limiting factor.

As for moving the guns more towards the center, I'd be guessing that the case is structurally more rigid along the edges. But maybe not by enough to make a difference?
 
Separating the rifle and bolt into 2 different cases......you CAN NOT carry the bolt in a carry on due to airline regs. So if you put it in checked baggage and it is lost or delayed you are in possession of a rifle without a bolt....ugh. Keep the bolt in the same case as the rifle.....
 
I have always left the scope on, but removed the bolt. I put the bolt in a gun sock.
Also my Pelican (same as yours) compresses my gun so much that I have never bothered using a cut out piece of foam. At SAPs inspection it never appears to have moved.
Carrying two guns in the case, I only put about a 2-3” wide strip of foam between the guns.
Now all that said, if my guns were as handsome as yours, I’d probably have a custom case with full separation for them. I think CAustin had one made similar for his 470 double and 375.

The heym is a very heavy rifle .. I am afraid it will move if the case is not handled properly . The idea of a custom case is a very good one . I will look in to it as soon as I am done purchasing rifles :) .. on top of those I just bought the beretta SO 3 shotgun . Which came with its original custom case by the way :) .

Agreed leave your scopes on and leave some space from the edges. The airlines require the bolt to be removed, I’ve been traveling with Pelican cases for years. I place the bolts in between the top and bottom foam pads. Always worked out well for me.
 
Just looked at several sources about "Bolts being removed from the rifle."
No requirements.

DELTA
Firearms must be packed in a locked manufacturer's hard-sided container specifically designed for the firearm, a locked hard–sided gun case or a locked hard-sided piece of luggage.
TSA
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only.
SAA
Firearms must be packed in suitable lockable firearm cases or bags.
 
So it's OK to pack things underneath the foam (slings, spare magazine, knife, etc)?

My two rifle setup is below - also a Pelican IM3300.

The plan is to leave the bolts in the rifles, but there is room to remove if required. Including the egg crate foam in the lid, and a very thin layer on the bottom, there are a total of four layers.

I concur, move the rifles closer to the center and leave the scopes on. If the case will close without cutting foam leave as is. You may want to use for other firearms. Some airlines prefer bolts out, packing is also flatter. I take an extra scope, if you do, make sure scopes all use same diameter rings. Arrived in Arusha, Tanzania one time and my case had tire marks across it, i also keep a very small flashlight and magnifying glass in the case for helping officials read serial numbers.. Sometimes custom offices in third world countries are poorly lit and numbers have been stamped on hard to see places. these items let officials feel you are not an amateur traveling with firearms. Also have your address printed on the case as travel tags often are torn off heavy, awkward cases. Keep your keys were you can quickly find them.
