Took delivery of my new VC in 450 NE over the weekend. Another easy purchase through Kebco and Ken. Set me up this time with a Docter III for my aging eyes. Rifle pretty much shot POA/POI with handloads assembled with IMR4831/F215/Hornady Brass/480 Grain DGS. Practice load with H4350/F215/Hornady Brass/Speer 400 grain Flat point decent, ran a ladder and will fine tune.

Ran 40+ rounds through the rifle offhand, flawless session. Next week will reconfirm the DGS load and start to fine tune my Cutting Edge Projectiles, the 420/450 family.

Thanks for letting me share.

Sounds awesome, but more pics please!

Limpopo,
Not wanting to jack your thread, however, how did you decide where to place the “red dot” I have a burris fastfire 3 and a trijicon RMR that I want to put on a 458 lott and a 416 rem. May only do the Lott. With the Trijicon
but since I have been thinking about this have seen pics where the red dot is half way out the barrel and all the way back to where you would find a receiver sight. I was going to mount it at the last rear receiver ring area.
Am I missing something?

Lovely rifle and quality maker. Same issue with eyes. A VC easily accommodates optical solutions.

Enjoy your new rifle. I would like to see some photos of targets taken during your range sessions while working up to your eventual hunting loads.

Here’s the last 4 rounds (extremeright hole another set). This is with handloads and Hornady 480 Grain DGS’s. Offhand at 35 -40 meters . Other loads need a tad more oomph to pull them “together”...next week.

Inconsistency plays a lot here by the operator but feel I’m on the right track.

The Docter III is great, used Trijicons and Meopta’s before , both good units as well, like the ergonomics and ease of operation ( power on/off). The VC factory mount point works, both eyes open shooting a breeze for this hack.

Thanks for the interest

These rounds with Cutting Edge projectiles run a shade under 4.0 inches. Cases 3.25 inch. 9mm round on the right for scale.

Hi Limpopo

Beautiful rifle...but I'm biased as I have exactly that same rifle and calibre combination, sans the Reflex sights

I'm interested in getting one fitted as well on my rifle

What mounts did you use?

It seems like the VC had its rib milled and then a weaver base fitted.

Would you mind taking a photo of the weaver base from the top?

Kind regards

One fine looking double! Oh my jealous side is showing!
Congratulations, but now I want to see what you take with!

TEASE! We need more pix of that beauty!

Sir..here’s a pic. Yes, supplied base was factory installed by V-C and appears installation as you describe. Docter base is a bit different than one on my Meopta; the QD lever is slightly flared out to clear the barrel contour, thus low installed height. The Meopta QD lever hits the barrel so cannot be installed. HTH

That helps a bunch thank you!

Any idea what brand optic mount it is, with the flared lever, that you used?

Regards

Mr. Badenhorst,

Don’t know where Kebco sources his mount, but do know he sources his Docter’s from Germany...Noblex.com. I’d drop them a note for details. Here’s a pic of my Docter (0n the right) vs the Meopta reflex sights comparing the levers as mentioned. HTH
