Trump Tweets About Farm Murders

Yes sir, but you have to remember that the statistics are very skewed, which does not give an accurate representation of the entire situation, and I will tell you why. Out of the 55 Million people in South Africa, 45Million of those are Black Africans. They fight crime their own way, and will take the law into their own hands within their areas. When they find one of their own causing trouble, they will deal with him themselves. We see this almost weekly. That is the African way.(Referring to the Continent) This means that MOST of those numbers you see, will be black on black.
Its as good as us taking the murder rate per capita, only from downtown Detroit, and using those statistic for the entire USA. Hardly a fair reflection, but a reflection non the less, and one that would worry anyone who did not take the time to eductate themselves.

Wow, you are really doing to sway some people with this response.

I sincerely regret the last paragraph on my last post and didn't mean to come across as heavy handed. Perhaps if you were exposed to such heavy opinions on your own country that seemed totally out of line, told you had your head in the sand when you refuted what was said...you would perhaps understand? It wasn't my intention to try and sway people. Maybe I should have been more diplomatic.

The fact is whatever the crime stats say - SA welcomes 6000-8000 foreign every year, that's 60,000 to 80,000 over ten years and I can't think of one who was murdered (ie needed an armed escort). If you can think of one, please post his/her name and the incident here. What's the murder rate on foreign hunters visiting our shores? Is that not the most relevant statistic when discussing South Africa in this context?

Dean2........You stated your opinion in a clear and polite manner. I hope you are wrong, but I appreciate your right to post and thank you for taking the time to do so. Forums are designed to discuss issues, and to share differing views. One thing I agree on, is that blacks will eventually take over all of the land in Africa. Whether in 15 years or in 150 years, it will happen. Another thing I believe, is that hunting in RSA is very, very safe...................for now....................good hunting to all..................FWB

My final comment on this subject. I did not intend to offend but I do stand by everything I said. I was aware of the high crime rate in SA before I went. If it actually terrified me, I would not have gone, I am a seasoned traveller and I have travelled the world for 50 years. I have been to more than 60 countries. The only place I have ever been robbed is South Africa. Few tourists are murdered in SA, most years no more than two or three, but there are getting to be more and more that are car jacked, mugged, defrauded or robbed in some fashion. Rape and assault of tourists is on the increase and worst of all the Police do absolutely nothing about it because there are over 2 million crimes a year reported.

Would I travel to South Africa again, yes as long as conditions remain as they are, no if the land is expropriated or the conditions get materially worse and I believe they will continue to deteriorate as the economy continues to get worse. I have a masters in economics and 40 years at the senior levels of Banking. I do clearly understand why the Rand has gone from par to 14 for a U.S. dollar. I can tell you I personally have no stocks or investments in South Africa and I do not recommend investments in SA to any of our retail or institutional investors. Those that are invested in SA need to be getting very high rates of return to offset the accelerated political and economic risks. GDP peaked at just over 400 Billion in 2011 but has since decreased to about 295 billion in both 2016 and 2017. That is a substantial contraction in 6 years and it is not showing any signs of material improvement.

I firmly believe one can travel in countries the are significantly more dangerous than Canada or the States but one does need to be fully aware of what you are getting into. The crime info is certainly not highlighted so I believe this forum is an entirely appropriate place to discuss it.

In the 17 African hunts I've been on almost all PHs have carried a auto side arm and they have told me it's for personal protection from other people.

SA and a one in Namibia, like I said almost all but not everyone. This year I hunted with three different outfits in SA and all 7 PHs in the camps but one carried a side arm and he was waiting for his license so he could carry.
