Mannlicher-Schoenauer in 9,3x64

It seems we have the basis for a 9.3X64 enthusiasts group here.....I just wish Hornady or someone would make some good brass for it, quality factor rifle will follow. Luckily, here in Australia, we have Bertram for brass, and Woodleigh for bullets. May be a bit pricey and hard-to-get in the US....
G'day Geoff, in Australia also. In the process of putting a x64 together on an FN 98 action, I have everything except the cases which I paid for in February and still have not arrived. Do Bertram do 9.3x64 cases? Do they have distributors or are they direct sales?

The Swift A frames should be perfect in 9,3x64.. as they are in .375H&H.

Remington load Swift in the .375 RUM with splendid results..

RWS still makes ammunition and cases, but the prices are, as the cases where drawn from pure gold.

I THINK Bertram will do cases; best bet is phone/email them Monday..... I was lucky, only waited about six months.

Will try that thanks, cases might be here next month, if not another 6 months. If Bertram don't do them I will probably do a private import from Huntington's

I can live with $4.00 a case, problem is the Australian importer for RWS don't really seem interested if it isn't 223 or 308. All adds to the anticipation I guess

Good luck trying to import from the US, it can be a major pain...

Agree, export permit from US around $300 USD, import permit for AUS $? plus shipping, plus cost of cases. That's why I'm okay with $4.00 a case purchased locally, 7 month wait so far and possibly another 6 to go is not so cool.

Or you can contact Hansie Minnaar , owner of Stewarts core bonded bullets and drawn brass casing...since our currency is lower than the manners of a farm pig , you will get it for cheap and the brass Hansie is making is of exceptional quality...I do not know of any USA company that will be cheaper than Hansie Minnaar

Gert, MCA is Monte Carlo Allpurpose stock design, a redesign of the 1956 MC which had the monte carlo too high to see the iron sights. The MCA doesn't have the soup bowl cheek rest but, a more conventional beaver tail type. Yes the white line spacers were a 1960's American thing that I wish had never happened. To my eye, the 1950 M/S had the best stock and bolt handle design. In 1952 the handle was swept back and in 1956 the God-awful Monte Carlo stock was added.
The earlier models, 1903, 1905, 1908, and 1910 had everything right!

Excellent response!

Joe, thank you kindly for this information, it is much appreciated. Joe, I search GOOGLE and saw the 1950 MS did have the side safety , it does not lock the bolt like the flag safety ...I made use of the flag safety by substituting it with a Ghost ring I made ..it really worked great...I was thinking of purchasing that rear scope mount/ghost ring and just fit it but not fit the front scope ring since I then have to drill the front ring ..something I do not want to do...the rear scope ring bases will fit nicely since there are already two drill and tapped holes done by the MS company ....then I will have a nice ghost ring so I do not need to turn my flag safety into a ghost ring..

I still don't get HWL's assertion that the purpose of the additional safety is to unload the MS while in ' a safe condition'.

The MS is unloaded (by depressing the release button) with bolt open and pulled back. What could possibly be safer than that?

I know a serious Mannlicher Schoenauer collector on one of the other forums, there are still a lot of original Mannlicher Schoenauers in South Africa....If we arrange a Mannlicher Schoenauer open sights only hunting I assure you we will have more participants than we will be able to accommodate on such a hunt...(y) Almost all of these original Mannlicher Schoenauers are rifles given from one generation to the next generation....

I'd like to see that happen and to have a well written article about it, including histories of each MS involved and with many photographs.

Ah, the golden grail of the Mannlicher-Schoenauers. It surely should be taken to Africa on a grand hunt!
I whole heatedly agree...hunt wuwih it herehin Africa then you can leave it here for me to buy and add to my stable!!:sneaky:

Ok, English is not my native language, but i will try it.

What I meant was not the unloading of the MAGAZINE, but the unloading of a live round out of the chamber.

A Mannlicher with flag safety has two positions only, "Fire" and "Safe"..... left an right.

In case you want to unload the rifle, you have to go to "fire", because in "safe" you can not open the bolt.

With the additional tang safety, you can keep this safety in "safe" and the rifle can be unloaded in safe condition.

The Mauser M98 had a 3-Position-Safety because of this reason, "Fire"(left),.....you can fire the gun and load/unload, "Safe"(Right),... you can not fire the gun and not operate the bolt(no loading/unloading),......and the "middle"position, the rifle is safe, but you can open the bolt and load/unload.

To unload a rifle in safe condition is nothing but a safety feature..... in its heydays, Germany hat 8 million soldiers, most of them (idiots:sneaky:) armed with Mauser M98...… every day, ONE IDIOT can kill a comrade while unloading his rifle in fire condition…..

There is another feature of the Mannlicher flag safety most owners do not know…..

You can block the bolt of an uncocked rifle by pushing the safety forward and turn it to the right 180 degrees

Now, the bolt can not be opened (and lost) unintentionally….

You have to give Gert Odendaal a kick hard enough, and he will make it happen....

I would fly around the globe for this.

For sure, we will see rifles in every caliber Steyr offered in the Mannlicher-Schoenauer.

'Gotcha' (verstanden).

I was, indeed, referring to unloading of the spool magazine.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
