My current supply of custom loaded ammunition is about exhausted. The ammo is for a Gene Simillion / D'Arcy Echols hybrid based on a Winchester Mod 70 CRF 26" Krieger barrel. It is chambered for the short throated .300 Wea Mag that Echols and Simillion build. Previously Superior Ammunition then located in South Dakota supplied my ammunition for this rifle. The Superior ammunition I currently have is near perfection, very reliable and super accurate. I see Superior Ammunition has a new owner and location. I would be interested hearing from anyone who is using current Superior ammunition. Also who are the companies loading quality custom ammunition? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I am not currently set up to reload and do not anticipate doing so in the near future. I have the complete load data from the original batch of Superior ammunition. If you do not want to post your response publicly please feel free to pm me . Thank you in advance.

Could just have a crack at reloading? Very easy

Just curious, do you plan on taking this rifle to Africa?

There was someone in Conn. try google for commercial reloaders in that state

Yes, I have done precision reloading for 20 years. Not set up to reload and gave away my equipment several years ago.

Most custom reloaders will want your rifle to test fire some rounds out of to check for pressure signs. I know the few that I know won't do it unless they can have the rifle or pistol to test the loads in, even loads that you have that are tried and true.

On of the first laws of reloading is to back off and work back up when new lots of powder, and primers are concerned.

Yes, it will be used for PG.
Nothing wrong with that cartridge but I would caution on taking it to Africa. Ammo sometimes needs to be shipped separately and can take a life of its own while traveling there. If it's lost and you can find factory ammo, with a short throat you may wind up with longer factory loaded bullets (especially Weatherby) and be unable to use them. I guess what I'm trying to say is special chamber rifle with special ammo is a can of worms just waiting to be opened. As always, it's the hunter's call.

Full disclaimer. I have yet to take a standard cartridge rifle or used factory loads on six trips but I know the risks and the rifles and scope combos my PH has for me to use in the event of lost rifles and/or ammo, 222s,243s, 308s and 375s and a couple dozen others.

Jim P and Hogpatrol are dead on on their answers especially when it comes to a Weatherby.

The load I use is not mar max. I have shot this gun and load in 100F and 15F . In the past I got 5 round sample packs and they started out 10% below the load worked out from the rifle builder(s) , will do this again. My original question still remains about the new Superior Ammunition. I will not be sending the rifle and scope out for load testing, since a load has already been developed .

I know what you mean about taking the guns you enjoy. My hunting partner will also be taking a .300 Wea and a 375H&H. We will have some of each other's ammunition in our separate bags, no problem since we use the same caliber rifles. I've done this with other hunting partners in the past .If the airlines loose both of our bags then I guess we are delegated to hunt with ugly rifles. Cheers

Two hunters, same guns, same headstamp ammo, you've pretty much got it covered. As far as ugly guns, yeah, especially with those big hunks of steel called suppressors on the end. :Inpain:
