...for allowing me to join your club.

At one time I lived in Africa and have been back 6 times since I moved away and plan at least one more grand hunt before I get too old.

I lived in Rhodesia long ago. I would have stayed, but things changed.

I live on the east coast of the US. North in the summer, and South in the winter.

I am retired, but for a long time I have been a purchaser of weapons and that which I don't hoard away for myself I find good homes for.

I also teach people how to hit their targets and drill them until it becomes second nature and help them prepare for hunting all manners of dangerous game. I also make custom dangerous game bullets for about 50 people that keeps me pretty busy.

I shoot many wild pigs in Texas and groundhogs in Pennsylvania every year as those are my two annual trips as I do this with great friends.

I am not very computer literate.
 
Welcome Von! At what age does one become too old for a hunt in Africa? We have members in their mid to upper 70s still going.
Now get planning your next trip:rolleyes:!
 
Welcome aboard Von. Sounds like you have lead an interesting life. You mentioned groundhogs. I'm going to guess you hunt them in Pennsy? I hunt them in southeastern PA and they keep me sharp for the bigger stuff.

My problem is that I am pretty long in the tooth along with a few years ago a back that was broken in 4 places , arteries severed and intestings and parts of organs removed. Not sure if I will ever hunt elk in new mexico ever again, but I did ok in Kamchatka this last spring. I'm still catching hell from my Norwegian wife of mine.

Yep! We've chewed some of the same dirt! Killed many a bear on McIntyre Mountain and big mountain bucks right in Trout Run. I've even shot at the original 1000 yard range more than once and I've even loosened a tooth or two at the Trout Run Firehouse over the years.

Groundhogs you say? I not only kill um.....I eat um as well, but on the lines that I head shoot. I too practice on a collection of farms in a different county than Lycoming. This family must own close to 50 sections loaded with game including the dumbest turkeys I be ever seen. I've been fortunate.

All sounds familiar, caught trout in the Lycoming, hunted bear behind the hotel in Bodines and have a few rounds down the Kellysburg range, but mostly scrawny bucks in Perry county. I will pass on the groundhog entree though. :sick: Hope all is well enough for you to make another hunt to the Dark Continent. For my money it's the best value in worldwide hunting.
 
Welcome to the forum. I live in Eastern Pa as well about 1.5 hrs north of Philadelphia. I do most of my hunting/fishing in the Poconos, a little north of home.

Von S, first of all welcome to AH. Sounds like for a lot of things "you've been there and done that." On this forum that means that you have a lot of experience and many stories to share. I turned 75 earlier this week and have a lot of mobility issues. I might also add that I recently enjoyed my second safari. I, like you have to hunt differently but the good news is that we can still hunt. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.
