Hunting reports
Africa

2016 marked my first trip to the Dark Continent...what was supposed to be a once in a lifetime hunt for Cape Buffalo. However something unexpected happened...I became addicted to African hunting, particularly buffalo. 2017 rolled around and I went on my second and last trip to Africa...I thought. Now it is less than 48 hrs from takeoff for trip number three. Hopefully three times is the charm and I will finally beat this Africa bug...time will tell.

Good luck on your third safari and trying to kick the habit.....

Good luck on hunt number three! And planning hunt number 4 :D:ROFLMAO:

Don't count on it!! I believe that the more trips you take, the more likely it is that you will be taking another. Good luck, what's on the menu this trip?

Six and planning seven. A good friend is on twenty four and still planning.

"Abandon hope all ye who enter here".

Relapse is part of recovery

Wish you the best of luck !

Have a grand hunt and don’t forget to share it with us!
Been 3x and booked for my 4th, and now my granddaughter has informed me she’s learning to shoot only so I’ll take her for her 14th birthday! So now I’m planning my 5th! Now I have her as my excuse:LOL::ROFLMAO::whistle:!

Just got to the gate, now got the wait. Nothing like people watching in an international terminal. Lol

The menu (?) this time will be a bit different than the last two trips. Primary will be buffalo, but I told my PH the rest will be pretty much whatever is available and what we run across. I guess Kudo would be desirable, but I would just like to hunt and see what the bush offers. No pressure for any particular plains game species, just enjoy the experience and add to the collection if possible. I have twelve hunting days this time around, we'll see what happens.

Update. Have been hunting two days in the Greater Karoo. Have now looked over 39 buff Bulls well within shootable range, several in excess of 40'. Have not encountered the right one yet. Looking for big solid bosses with good drop. Spread not of primary importance, over 40' would be nice but overall shape and age is primary. Hunting area over 80,ooo contiguous acres and lodging is first class. Plains game is plentiful and looks to be in excellent condition, several nice trophies already spotted, but buff is primary at this point. Cold front moving in tonight. Hopefully can post more info soon.

Update. First opportunity in a couple of days to give another short update. After looking over around 65 buff, finally found a fairly old one (12-13 yrs.) yesterday with a hard boss and decent overall shape. Although spread was not a big concern he did end up being 41.5". We tracked him and another bull that was younger off of a waterhole and caught up with them midday where they were lying up. Stalked to within 50 yards, they were in low scrub and all we could see was the tops of their horns. Finally after each had gotten up individually so we could examine their horns I was able to get off a shot at the old boy broadside. He went about 40 yards and dropped, no follow up shot was required.
Hunted Kudu late yesterday afternoon and today. The weather was nice today, a cold front moved in late Saturday thru yesterday and it had been cold and windy. Several Kudu seen, but just not what I am looking for. Moving to another property tomorrow morning to hunt Kudu there and maybe Springbok (white, copper & black), it is located near Kimberly. Will spend a couple days there and then move onto another property near Jagerfontein before flying out on the 5th. Will try and get a photo of the buff posted.

Yes, it seems you'll be over your African hunting bug with this trip and will never return.......(y):)
