I am buying a CZ 550 in 416 rigby for buffalo hunting in SA. I plan to put a Leupold VX6 1x6x24 on it. I need advice on rings and bases for this setup. Detachable?,brand? I want the best I can get. Please share your expertise. Thanks!

Huntndog, can’t help you with CZ550 mounts, but I would suggest you spend the extra money for the illuminated reticle. Having hunted brown and black bears in almost dark and Black Death in almost dark conditions I found it helps see the crosshair intersection much easier and quicker. The Leupold doesn’t come on until it’s somewhat dark anyway.
Best of luck on that Cape buffalo!

It said “ fire dot IR” in the description of the one I am planning on. I don’t know if there are other options. I have seen where people have suggested getting an extended eye relief model, but I’m unaware of how to do that. None of this has been purchased yet so I am open to suggestions.

“Fire dot” Illuminated Reticle is perfect! I doubt you’ll need more eye relief than the Leupold VX-6 has. Mine works great for my 375 H&H.

I have Warne on my 416 and they've worked great. Guys also go with Alaska arms, Talley, and EAW.

I use the same scope, with the firedot, on my 416RM. It is a fantastic scope and the firedot really makes the difference in low-light situations. I like that it is a simple push-button rather than a knob to turn.

I have a VX6 on my 30-06 and have taken numerous boars right at sunset with the firedot on. I would not have seen the reticle otherwise.

Agree with what other posted. Go with some sort of lit reticle. Black crosshairs can disappear in low light conditions. I have a Leupold 3-9 ballistic firedot for deer hunting. It comes on automatic with any movement and goes out after a set time.

I like my Warne quick detachable steel rings on top of a Warne steel rail
(picatinny).
And I use the same scope for my AR and 30-06, Trijicon 4-16x50mm AccuPower.
Had to add a rail riser on the AR for the objective lens to clear.
Warne insists no lapping required on his steel rings. I called him.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Just what I needed!

I’m not familiar with Alaska Arms but have Warne on two CZ’s and have been very pleased with them.

I prefer the Firedot 4 over the standard Firedot reticle. If it doesn’t come in the model scope you purchase the Custom Shop can do it.

Warne QD

Completely agree..

Ive got Warne QD on both of my "DG" guns.. and Warne "Maxima" on most of my other rifles (with a few other guns wearing Talley or Leupold mounts and rings)...

I've yet to find a better product at a similar price point than the Warnes.. rock solid, great return to zero, reasonable price point, etc..

I’ve got several Leupold rings. However, I’m slowly changing all my rifles over to TALLEY aluminum and there steel quick detachable in my DG rifles. I love the Talley’s! I don’t have any Warne mounts but it seems guys love them.

One more vote for the Warne QD. I have them on a couple of scopes that I use on a CZ 550 in 375H&H. I have had no issues.

What I like about the Alaska rings is the attach/detach is done via lever actuated cam plate. Simply flip two leavers 90 degrees and the scope is off. One reason this is important is its easier than unscrewing a lever. The act of scope removal can be done by feel so attention may be focused on the game. Not quite as fast as a claw mount, but about 10 times less the cost and they are designed to clamp directly to the top of a 550 with out any additional bases or parts, handy.

The cam section can wear and result in play and a loose mount which is not good on a heavy recoiling DG rifle.

Screw on you turn until it is tight. Its not like you need the scope of in two seconds on a DG rifle.

Warne QD mounts for the CZ550, should run you around $100.
Allows you to remove the scope and use the irons if needed.
Also, you can have more than one scope for that rifle, one for longer range, one for closer and irons for the thick stuff.

That said, I've heard good things about the Talley QD's and Alaska Arms QD's.
I just happen to like my Warne rings better, personal preference really.
