You might have to convert the article to english. Interesting though the 10.3x68 mag. Read somewhere else its ballistics can vary between a 30-06 and a 416 depending on what you run through it.

Interesting. But a couple tenths of a mm more and they're shooting .416" bullets which quite available....maybe they actually do?

I actually dont mind the idea of it. Ive always wanted a bigger calibre but with my hunting budget I'm never going to be hunting dangerous game so a rifle that you can load up and down like this intrigues me.

But given only blaser and sauer are currently making it cant imagine it'd be cheap!

its a 416 RM that's been shortened and necked down the .415". this means its an expensive proprietary cartridge fired from an expensive rifle. :A Banana Sad:

save your self a lot of money and buy a Winchester M70 in 416 RM then use light bullets at reduced speed. I personally run a 300gr Barnes TSX at 2700fps which gives mild recoil and outstanding performance. if you want to go even lighter, you could have HAWK BULLETS make you some 200-250 grain bullets for critters such as deer and pigs.

Let the gun writers wring it out and see what it can do, they can afford to do so.
There are bunch of cartridges out there now that when released people said they would be duds.
Some were duds and others have stuck around if even only in a niche.
Time will tell, let'g give it some.

gun writers say what ever they are paid to say. you wont find too many gun writers saying the cartridge they were paid to write about is pointless (wouldn't be a sound business move).

unless this cartridge can do something a 416 RM cant do then I don't see its purpose. heck with how cheap magnum actions are these days you cant even use the excuse that "it would fit in a standard long action rifle" as an advantage.

Ive never shot anything bigger than a 9.3 so I'm not sure how ill deal with heavy recoil. Never considered a 416rm, having said that never realised you coule load it down.

Always thought id get a 9.3 or a 450/400 and run sambar loads through it. Dunno now!

I was discussing this with Matt tonight. My take on it is that it is a answer to a question nobody asked. The 416 Rem mag, 416 Rigby and 416 Ruger have this covered pretty well.

I think its really leaning towards a large calibre that can go down to a smaller projectile amd focussed on the european market. Being able to use a 200gn projectile as well as dangerous game range stuff makes it really a one gun for all type thing. If it grips and becomes more popular I'd think about one before a 416 rigby

I believe you (and Matt85) are correct in saying that they are answering a question no one asked, much like the WSM cartridges.
Gun writers lie, this we know.
Being paid to promote a product and do an unbiased review is a conflict of interest.
That being said, the empirical data that they collect will still be data that we can evaluate.
Any sportsman considering such a rifle should be able to discern gun writer opinion from the facts.

From the naming of the cartridge in metric and the only rifle I can find for it is a Blaser, I would guess it's aimed at Europe.

Has anyone seen/read why exactly this cartridge was developed?

I believe it was for the swiss market where they have a 10.2 or 10.3 minimum cal requirement.

As if there were not already enough cartridge choices to spin the head of the most experienced shopper.

I think you are right JPbowhunter in some cantons of Switzerland the 10.3x60 caliber is a required minimun. It sounds like Blaser and RWS are not only targeting Switzerland but expanding it to all of Europe and hoping to attract African hunters too.

When i firet started the thread i had no opinion on them other than curiosity. The more i read about them though the more i disagree with a lot of people here, i reckon due to the euro market and it will hang around and if it handles its versatility well it really could be one of the great all rounders.

Time will tell, I too think it has the potential to be a good all rounder. I wish they would have used the 8x68s beltless case though. I guess it's a matter of economics, and I think there is not a large variety of bullets in that caliber. The .375 /.416 Ruger could be interesting in a .411. I wonder how much different it would be compared to the .416 Ruger or this new 10.3x68.

The lady in second video clip expressed her opinion that the marksmanship tests were too easy to pass but didn’t state why she was concerned. Was it due to a (potential) problem with the numbers of wounded animals as a result of ‘poor shooting’ I wonder - or was she viewing harder tests just as being convenient way to reduce the number of people shooting game? I suspect the latter.
