Thought Id post about my recent trip with Wikus Groenewald Safaris. Ive been to Africa many times, hunting in Zim, Mozambique and South Africa. I met Wikus 8 years ago when he guided me on a Cape Buffalo hunt.

I had some guests wanting to go to Africa and spoke with Wikus. He suggested I come to a place South of Uppington South Africa called Kalahari Orxy. A 225,000 acre spread. So I took him up on it. Especially since a Black Wildebeast was something yet I hadnt taken. Am I glad I did. Its the nicest place Ive ever been in Africa. Each place Ive hunted has its unique qualities in Africa, and can say there wasnt a place I didnt love hunting at. But this lodge was incredible. And Ive never eaten so well on a Safari in my life. The place was absolutely gorgeous. Wasnt really what I was expecting. I knew there would be sand, but the terrain consisted of a lot of rolling hills and deep draws. As well as very high rocky mountains to glass from. We saw just about every game animal you could see in Africa with the exception of Elephant, leopard, warthogs and hippos of course. This is the type of place you could go if you were a diehard hunter, or you wanted to bring your girlfriend, or wife or family. The staff was first class as always in Africa. I wont go on forever blabbing, the photos speak for themselves. But if any of you are considering a trip of a lifetime, I have no problem at all endorsing this place. The 7 days flew by. And now that Im home all I can think about is getting back there. If anyone would like to get info they can contact Wikus.

We tried Emirate airlines for the first time. We went from Orlando to Dubai. Then Dubai to Joberg. Its a haul. But Emirates airline is fantastic. I wouldnt think twice about using them again. Wikus can also arrange gun rentals. Which we did. We had the option of a 243 or 300 mag on the truck depending on the game. Saves a lot of hassle bringing over guns if that helps. 14 hours from Orlando to Dubai. 8 hours from Dubai to Joberg. 1 Hour flight to Uppington then about one hour drive to the ranch. One more thing I would like to ad is I keep up with the news in Africa. I was a little concerned about some of the violence Ive been hearing about in certain parts of the country. Those went away pretty quickly. I can only speak on what I experienced on this trip. Which its the same place Ive been going to since 1993. All was just the same from at least where I went. Happy Hunting!

Well it certainly does look like a 5 Star place! And by the countryside it is definitely Kalahari country!
That is one awesome gemsbok! I would have taken it too!
Thanks for sharing the pictures and info!

I also hunted with Kalahari Oryx and Nicolai was my PH. Excellent place would be an understatement. First Class operation and I was even able to shoot the Springbok Slam in 1 Day.

Love the gemsbuck! great pictures and its awesome you got to hunt with you'r wife.
Really nice looking place!

That was an awesome place to hunt. I was only there for a couple days and 3 nights. The service was first class and the picnic lunches were gourmet 4 course meals. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I ended up taking a really good Hartebeest and a decent Gemsbok bull. We also saw a lot of Rhino and a couple black mane lions as well. The terrain was rolling hills and the famous Kalahari red sands.

Beautiful photos! Love the springbok!
