I have purchased a CZ 550 Safari in 375 H&H for my wife to start hunting Africa with me. She loves the look of color case hardening on some of the rifles we have seen and I would like to have that treatment along with several other customizations( Muzzle brake and cap, Mercury recoil reducer insert, smoothing out the feeding over factory levels...etc.)
Any help on gunsmiths you all would recommend is greatly appreciated! I have been a silent stalker of the website for far to long and decided to post. Thanks in advance.

The best color case man by far on the whole planet is Doug Turnbull (not the cheapest - but in a league all his own) https://www.turnbullrestoration.com/ He could likely pull most of the rest of the project together as well.

Have her try the rifle before putting in that recoil reducer in the butt. The 550 is pretty heavy out of the box and I don't think she will find recoil an issue - particularly off sticks. Maybe you do the sight-in off the bench? As you well know, judging by your avatar, an extra two-pounds can, however, be a real pain to carry around - particularly for a smaller frame person.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will be speaking to both of them today and will keep everyone posted.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
