Is it exportable to the USA?

Is it exportable to the USA?

A better question is: Can you get a permit to import it? I was looking to hunt one in April 2018 in Namibia, it was exportable, but was told that the US had not issued permits for some time and no change was expected in the near future.

Check with the importers on this.

I think Zim elephants are exportable to the US as well.... but it's not the export part that is problematic......

Agree with @Countrylife and @ActionBob . Unless there has been a change of which I am not aware of, still no import of elephant ivory into the U.S. regardless of which country it was taken. The other question directly related to this is, if it becomes legal, how long will it take to obtain a permit? If bringing home ivory is the goal, I wouldn't think you would want to book the hunt until you had permit in hand. And with all of the other problems, many Trump self induced, I am relatively confident that reopening the importation of ivory is way down at the bottom of his list, if it is on the list at all.

As said before it is not a problem to export and the latest we received at SCI in January which appears to be still current; is that elephant imports are under review and each individual case will be handled at its own merit. This implies that an elephant would have to be successfully hunted first in order to submit all the necessary motivation for the specific hunt. Namibia has it's house in order and we therefore have to believe that a application ought to be successful and USFWS service needs to be challenged on this topic. Meetings are in process as we speak where we believe criteria will be finalised for such applications, hopefully in the next few weeks. Sec. Zinke has appointed a committee who is handling this issue, therefore as hunters we have to approach this positively, otherwise will only allow the greenies to have it their way. The most important factor here is to continue our conservation efforts in order to maintain and protect Africa's safari hunting areas for the benefit of all hunters.

Import permits are to be issued on a case-by-case basis at this point and you must submit a lot of documentation as to the population of the specific area to be hunted, conservation efforts and anti-poaching to have a chance. I am waiting on a permit for lion in the SVC. The committee that Zinke appointed won't be doing much until after the mid-term elections, according to a client of mine who is on the committee. I am not doing my hunt until I have an import permit.
