NAMIBIA: BOWHUNT: Namibia, Here We Come!

This should be an exciting adventure for everyone. Congrats on taking your daughter hunting. Will make some exceptional memories for her.

It’s been an up and down two weeks here in Namibia. Free range hunting with crazy, hard blowing winds. But Emily got four of her five animals. We’re packed up and flying out tomorrow.

Emily did very well! Proud Pop on Father's Day, congratulation and you obviously have done very well too.

Congratulations on Emiley's trophies as well as yours... Sounds like you had a fun trip!

It's actually funny how small the world is! My wife, Elleni, ran into Roy in town (Windhoek) yesterday and Roy told Elleni about you and Emiley, and now a day later I read your hunt report and connected the dots.

It looks like you had fun. I hope we can see some more pictures.

My best,
Jacques

congratulations Emily on your successful hunt, a father-daughter experience that will bring back many memories in the years to come. Kudos to you Dee on doing all the extra sacrifices to make this special trip happen.

We tried three items on that list, not sure which ones. Not bad, we ate it. Think two had a bird we hope was chicken and the third had lamb.

Yea when travelling it is just best to eat what looks good and don't worry about what it is:)

It is great that you got to hunt with your daughter and that she had success. Sounds like a wonderful trip!!!

Great report! Awesome that you were able to get everything with the bows!

Just landed in Doha after 14 hours in the air in Economy. Wasn’t too bad. Food was pretty good, staff was great, bathrooms clean and roomy, plenty of entertainment in each seat, leg room ok, only minor, but common issue, was the narrow seats. I’m broad shouldered and I’ve never had enough shoulder room on any airlines or plane, unless a seat is empty next to me. Next flight isn’t nearly as crowded, so I should have that empty seat next to me.
They’re (Qatar Air) putting us up in a hotel and we’re waiting on the shuttle now. We plan on getting cleaned up and then going shopping before the next and final leg in nine hours.
We packed four Bowtech bows, a primary and secondary for us both. RPM360 and Carbon Overdrive for me. Eva Shockey and Assassin for her.

Hi @DeeS! Great story. I would love to hunt Africa with one of my kids...

Is it normal practice for Qatar to put their passengers up in a hotel for the layover there?

Best,

Lee

I can't speak for how or when they offer the free hotel, but during our booking period, the hotel was being offered on the trip over and not on the return. I think it's their way of getting people out of the airport and into town where you're more likely to shop and spend money. There isn't a whole lot to do in Doha and I can't imagine spending a whole day there touring the city in that heat, but our stay was at night so the temp, as I recall, was down to around 104. We went to the market for about two hours, where we ate and did some shopping. Not a lot of stuff really interested us, but my daughter picked out a couple of women's wallets for her and her sister, a scarf for my wife, and Emily bought a woven jacket/hoodie. Even though there wasn't a lot that interested me there at the market, it was still worth the trip just to see it and experience and I'd recommend anyone to go at least once if they have the time.

Thank you @DeeS! I seriously considered Qatar for my next trip over but my wife nixed the long layover in Doha. Perhaps on the next, next trip... ;)

The airport is huge, brand new, has everything inside of it including a hotel. The city is very modern and from all accounts, very safe. I'd rather layover there than some of the European options that other airlines fly into for their layovers. I will not hesitate flying the same route on my next trip.

Wonderful! This was an adventure you both will remember the rest of your lives!
Congratulations to both of you!

Congrats! Wonderful trophies, especially with bow/arrow!

That young lady will remember these experiences all of her life. Great job Dad for expanding her horizons. This is really the future of our sport. Thanks for making sure it will continue for some time!

What a joyful story to read(y)(y)(y)
