SOUTH AFRICA: 1st Safari!!!!

Great pic. I wish I'd have gotten one like that with my baboon!

Day 7 was a travel day from Limpopo to the Free State. Wow what a difference in terrain and temperature.
Day 8 found us looking for Baboons in the hills, we tried all morning with no success. After a quick lunch a small bunch of Common Springbok was located with a good ram in the group. And the stalk was on, after belly crawling as close as we could and only moving in the shadows, we were in position. Just needed him to step out. After about 45 minutes he finally step out and offered a shot.

Walking up to him, I was surprised at how small & delicate they are. Now I'm thinking about picking up the other 3 colors

Day 9 was spent helping my buddy chase a Black Wildebeest.
Day 10 I was going to try and make a move on a Zebra. We located the herd and spent most of the morning trying to get close enough for an ethical shot.
Then the stars aligned and he stepped out

I was shocked at how tough this zebra are, can they ever take a bullet!!!!! I was not prepared for the size of them as well, they were definitely bigger than what I was expecting. A very beautiful animal and once again I was humbled by this amazing specimen

Guster, congrats on a great hunt! I could not find a web site for Legelala but I could find one for Legelela with the outfitters name Reiner Linde. Was that the place or a misprint?

That is correct

I have a hunt tentatively booked with Reiner next year for ardwolf , serval and genet.

So the night of Day 10, we tried something that is illegal in Canada. We went out night hunting with spot lights. I have never been involved in this before. But we had a blast. Amazing how things change at night time. First of all, I could not believe how fast the porcupines are. At home they are a very slowing moving animal. But in Africa they are like NASCAR fast. The quills are amazing and I brought them back as a keep sake. We also shot Spring Hare, what a strange looking critter.

Sako A7 in .300WSM
I shoot a Kimber 8400 300WSM. It worked great in Africa, too. What bullet are you using? Handloads or factory?

Nice porcupine! I tried to take one but only managed to hit some quills. They sure can move fast if properly motivated!

Guster, congratulations on a great first African hunt! Welcome to the African hunting addiction!

Beautiful animals sir. That kudu is awesome!!!! Congrats on a great trip!

I was using handloads. 165 grain Hornady GMX
Pretty close to what I shot. 165 gr Barnes TSX handloads.

Congrats again on a great first trip.

Glad you had a great trip and got some great animals! very impressive kudu!!

We pulled all the quills and I brought them back in my checked luggage, no issues
