can anyone tell me how they like there Winchester Safari .375? I’m torn between the CZ and Winchester

When I no longer own my M70 it's because I'm pushing up dandelions. Need to know more?

No idea on the modern ones at all. I've owned pre-64s and they are out there for little more cost than the new ones. No complaints other than they aren't built for giant people. The one I had, I bought in 95% condition about 4 years ago from Cabelas for $1600 with two defects: missing recoil pad ($150 for repro winchester orange pad fitted) and missing its rear sight ($200). Shot and handled fine, was just too short for me, so I bought a vintage English mauser with a longer LOP that I like more. Their similarities were and are more than skin deep.

I own the new Winchester 375 and have owned the CZ in the same caliber. I really prefer the Winchester over the CZ. The new CRF on the Winchester is as slick as Owl Shit compared to the CZ

They are both great rifles , the M70 out of the box definitely has the edge over the CZ .

However IMHO once you work on the CZ it improves dramatically , the CZ definitely needs to be worked on .

I just sold my M70 and kept the CZ , the M70 never felt correct for me while the CZ after modifications is the one that I prefer.

My m70 is a wonderful and functional piece! It took the bear in my avatar. The safaris all have the same barrel profile so the .375s barrel is a little heavy but it still handles well and shoots great!

I’ve got a Winchester M70 stainless classic in 375 H&H...it is every bit as fine as my other med and small bore M70’s...

Shoots straight, boringly reliable, and nice lines, all for a very affordable price (I picked mine up “used”, with less than 20 rounds through it, for $650)...

What’s not to like?

I was in a similar position to yourself and put a deposit down on the CZ.... it didn't feel right so i swapped to the M70 safari and I don't regret my choice for a second! The CZ is a good firearm however it needs work, the stock needs to be slimmed down as it feels "clubby" and the action is no where near as smooth. If you're a person that like to tinker and improve thing then the CZ is your rifle. If not go the M70. The only qualm i have with the M70 is mag capacity it would be nice to have the additional rounds the CZ offers.

I have the m70 in .458 and my dad has it in .416. I kind of wish my .375 was an m70 but I bought it last minute on a whim for my first safari and the only .375 I could get in time was a browning x-bolt(I actually like it a lot btw).

The m70 is just plain ol’ right out of the box. It has all the right features and is smooth, reliable, and accurate from the get go.

No disrespect to CZ, my 404Jeff is built on a CZ550 action, and when I hunted Africa i used my CZ 308 Mannlicher for plains game

I like my newer M70 in 416 RM, but never owned a CZ

I would like the CZ but I don’t want to spend that kind of money on a rifle to have to dump more money into it.

Both great guns in their own rights. But rarely hear of a M70 needing work as a new gun.. Although the trigger is a bit stiff. Easy to fix your self, just take the barreled action out and turn the adjusting screw out until you get the resistance you like. There is one special trick though. Just take the screw out and toss it, won't go below 3 pounds. ;)

I actually went through the hassle of lock tighting mine in so I wouldn't lose the screw, but probably a waste of time and effort. My shooting accuracy improved after backing it down to reasonable 3 pounds. I think that trigger comes stock with attorneys behind it...

Irons are good. Nothing special, but they work fine. It's a great gun for the money.

Leopold VX6 in 1-6 or 2-12. Illuminated 4 reticle.

A M-70 .375 HH can't be beat for price and value unless you bump your cost up considerably.

How are the iron sights? And what is a decent scope?

The irons on the M70 are basic, but they are functional and work fine.

I mounted one of the new Zeiss V4 Conquest 1-4x with the illuminated reticle on my .375 M70.. We got a great deal on it just after they were released at this years SHOT Show.. Even at full retail they are a pretty good bargain IMO though.. you can find them online for about $800... for that you get a 30mm tube, illuminated reticle, german glass made at AB Schott, etc..etc..

M70 control round feed new model I used a new 416 Rem mag to rebarrel to 404 Jeffery
That it in avatar I find it is my go to for heavy game if not using double 470NE

I found that the .375 will be more useful for me on other game here. The .416 was a thought but would be overkill for my current needs.

I looked at both the 550 and M70 side by side just to see if the CZ would stand out. I’m much more familiar with the Winchester control feed action. And I like the nostalgia behind the Winchester brand. I was already leaning that way mostly for the first reason . Both the CZ and the Win looked like they would work for me. I left the store with the Winchester. I’ve only shot it with irons, but have a scope in Talley QDs going on it shortly. It is a humble gun, but has worked well. I wish they made a super grade Safari when I bought mine. I would have upgraded to get the better wood and finish.

I think either the CZ or Win would work fine.
