Cargolux bans hunting trophies

:S Bs Flag:this sucks

I fear that this is just the tip of the iceberg and in the next few years international hunting as we know it will only be for the wealthy. Does not bode well for game ranchers, outfitters , PHs, D&P, and the wildlife, the list goes on and on!

@jeff . I believe you are 100% correct. IMO you will still be able to hunt Africa for many more years. But the idea of bring a trophy home to the states is closing fast. There are just not enough international hunters to make a difference. The deep pocket hunters will probably be able to stretch it out longer than the average guy though. As @Royal27 likes to say, you'll still be able to hunt, just not bring anything home!

I think it might even effect the opportunity to hunt even if you don't bring trophies home because many of the game ranchers/outfitters will move on to different ways of providing for their families and the opportunities will be greatly diminished..

Good point....at the very least there will most likely be fewer of them.

Who knows, maybe in 10-20 years, you go hunting, shoot something, take a photo of it and send it to a 3D printer and a full body mount is waiting on your doorstep when you get home.

Could be! I doubt if I'm around to see it, but many of our younger members may be! People seem to be doing everything else with 3D printers!

We’re losing ground very very quickly. I don’t know if we can stop this. I feel bad for the younger generation who may not be able to experience Africa the way we have. For me I only have a few more safaris left in the financial future. Well at least the way I want to hunt Africa, and the game I hope to hunt. Shame we have no strong voice.

The one thing about the free market is someone will find a way to get you your cargo to you no matter what the obstacle. For example, the first time I was in St. Petersburg, in 1993, when you followed the rules, you could not get anything done. All I had to say in english was f this place, and some enterprising individual was more then willing to help for hard currency (USD) and I was able to get anything done that I wanted. Your trophy will alway make to home for a price.

This is the stupidest thing I've seen in a while.
Really ? A cargo shipper wanting to save the environment. They do know crates are made of wood that come from cutting down forests , right ? DO they ship leather, iron items , potrolium products, fabrics etc. These all take away from animals places to live and damage this earth in one fashion or another.
Political grand standing at best. Over population of the human race is the single largest effect on our wildlife. They must not ship a lot of wildlife or make so much money that they can just throw money away.
Business is created out of need , so hopefully others will arise out of this and see the need.

I SAY THEY NEED TO TAKE A STAND AND CLOSE THEIR DOORS TO SAVE THE WORLD !!

Brickburn,

this news pisses me off! so, i used the e mail link you included and dropped them a line that went like this:

to whom it may concern,

as to your recent ban on shipping trophies, your statement:

" Cargolux is committed to building a sustainable business model and this includes preserving the environment and its natural resources”
it seems to show your relative ignorance on the subject. hunters buy land and property to allow the continuation of wildlife to have a habitat to live in. if the wildlife does not have any value, then people will “develop” the property, and put cattle or other domestic livestock on the land, which will effectively ruin the land for wildlife, and since wildlife competes with livestock for food, wildlife is generally not well tolerated.

another example, Cecil the lion. afterword, imports of lions were outlawed, and later that year 200 lions had to be culled, because no hunter could hunt them. lost revenue, jobs and ultimately habitat are the result of such short sighted, politically correct decisions.

i hope that you consider researching your stance on “preserving wildlife”. kenya has outlawed hunting for quite some time, and has very little wildlife left. it is a bit of a disappointment when owners/CEO’s of companies don’t understand that their efforts to be politically correct actually hurt wildlife.

don hunley

probably won't change anything, but makes me feel better that i said something!

I can only imagine the PR department will react like this:S Beat Dead Horse:
OR:confused:

you are most likely right, joke em!!!

like i said, i wrote that e mail for me. many times i have seen wrong thinking, and said nothing. i am trying to change my ways a bit and be a little more interactive. truth is, its easier for me to do nothing, but if something pisses me off, i always feel better having spoken what i believe to be the truth.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
