And they are a very personal rifle, takes time to fall in love... ;)

I’ll chime in on the William Douglas as I once owned one. I bought it new around 96 or 97 from Cape Outfitters . Originally offered in 470 NE, it was a dream come true to own one. I hunted Zimbabwe with it in 98, taking my largest buffalo ever, and my first elephant. I returned to Zim in 2001 and spent a full season working for the same safari company, and the 470 was my daily companion.
The rifle handled and shot like a dream. It is solid, with everything you need and nothing that you don’t. I sold it around 2006 in an economic downturn, and I deeply regret that. I have considered buying this one but I have hopes of locating my old rifle someday, serial number 1116.
If you bought this rifle you won’t regret it, ever. In terms of function and reliability I think they compare favorably against the finest doubles London has to offer.

I got confused wanting both the 470 AND the Berettas; I'm more'n a bit nutz about a side-by-side double.... in fact an decent (and the 470 is WAY more'n decent!) double rifle, or shotgun.
 
If fishes had wishes then fishes would fly ... and I'd buy them all...
 
I must admit that I am sorely tempted by the .470. I shot cbvanb's .500 recently and loved it. WD made a very good gun. However, I got my Lott out of the safe, threw it up a few times and convinced myself to put the money into an ele instead. Sorry James, tomorrow I may weaken but today I stick with the Lott!
 
Very fine tools of the trade! If I was twenty years younger, I’d jump on these. At my age I need to spend what I have available on hunts and memories.

After my very close encounter with Black Death, I seriously considered a double.
My PH who has used a Mauser 375 all of his career that very day said, I need a double!
I would say the price is more than fair, great life Insurance!
Hope you have sold them, I can’t afford to sell my truck to get it for my next DG hunt...
 
Do you still have the 470 and the pair of silver hawks?
