Hornady won’t sell Ammo to New York Government

The void will be hard to fill. When S and W tried to take money from the Clinton admin, they got boycotts. Save for a few upstate counties, it’ll be hard explain why they are giving ammo to New York

No one will be giving ammo to NY.

They will be selling it... and be more than happy to do it..

Law Enforcement agencies tend to get significantly discounted prices for ammo because they buy in such bulk.. Even smaller agencies are usually smart enough to go in on bulk purchase deals with other agencies in their area so that they can get the discounts..

But, the ammo companies still make a ton of money off of law enforcement, due to the volume of ammo that is purchased..

Any police agency that was purchasing from Hornady before is still going to need ammo.. Theyre just going to pick up the phone and call remington, winchester, federal, etc.. and ask for 4-5 boxes to T&E pending a future bulk purchase..

The ammo manufacturers will be more than happy to send them a few hundred rounds for free for a shot at future business..

The police agencies will then send a couple of their Firearms Instructors out to the range to test the ammo, and will do a little research on its ballistics, etc.. and then will produce a report recommending their agency switch to brand X (whoever is selected), load Y....

That will get sent up through the administration and procurement departments (every agency is different about how they go through the approval and procurement processes)... and a couple of weeks later, they will be submitting an order for how ever many thousands of rounds they need of the "new" stuff..

The challenge in overcoming this for the police agencies is negligible....

That said.. I still respect the hell out of Hornady for taking a stand.. good on them.. I'll be going out of my way to help offset some of their sales loss personally.. the next time I need a couple of boxes of ammo for one of my rifles, I'll pick up some of their superformance line and give it a whirl...

business is business, and politics is politics........and when you mix the two, it gets messy!!! However, having said that I think that, I think that any company that supplies ammo to NY states will make a profit from them, but will lose business from thee general gun owning public.......whether one will compensate the other remains to be seen. Remington moved it's plant out of NY state, Barrett moved from CA and refuses to fix any of it's rifles that are owned by law enforcement agencies in CA. because of the draconian antigun measures that the state (supported by the LEOs of CA) have passed. Sturm, Ruger and company have moved from CT to NC because of stricter gun control measures passed by the stated of CT. It's a push back by the industry, and as gun owners, I think we need to support them.

HORNADY is now on my go to list! I’m a Barnes and Swift Guy primarily but will now experiment with Hornady products. If they work I’m switching. I think all the ammo and reloading companies like RCBS, Dillion, Lyman Remington and Winchester etc need to bail out of NY.

Ok @mdwest guess I wrote give Instead off sell. Hornady has gotten extreme popularity by not selling to New York. Just look at the thread. I expect who sell ammo to New York will at least experience loss of stock value.

I hope youre right.

Ronnie Barrett telling California to get stuffed several years back certainly didnt hurt his business any..

I hope Hornady telling NY to get stuffed in 2018 has the same impact on their business.. and that they prosper as a result of their actions..

One problem that I see is that the only forum that I have even seen discussing that Horady is getting out of the NY state business is this one. 99% of shooters out there have no idea that they quit selling ammo to NY state government.

Also has anyone looked to see just how much business Horady does with them? I know in some other states that the preferred vendor for ammo is Speer.

I belong to two other forums besides this one, and the news was there as well. Also, think of how this is traveling by word of mouth, or media.

I heard some interesting stuff at the convention about more news like this to be revealed this week along the lines of what Springfield Armory has done. We shall see if it holds true!
