ETHIOPIA: Rocky Valley Safaris

Congratulations and thanks for writing up the report. I enjoyed reading about your adventures in the mountains of Ethiopia. Amazing number of bulls you saw before the last one.
Well done!

The pictures of those mountains just call to me. Gorgeous countryside.

Congrats on your success. A very nice trophy.

Congrats! It's great to see an old mountain nyala taken after hunting hard for one, you appreciate it more!

Congratulations! If you haven’t tried hunting these magnificent beasts, it’s difficult to know just how challenging it can be - rain, fog, altitude, on foot, cold, and thick cover. When you connect, it’s usually very well earned - this seems to have been no exception!

Thanks @Hank2211, as you well know the Mountain Nyala is one of those animals that will humble you while in pursuit. But in the end, all the hardships and stuggles are worth it!

Another amazing JES Adventure! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks @375 Ruger Fan, after this season you may not see any reports from me for a while!

BTW - I pushed ahead to make the Ethiopia trip as I have two children going to college this Fall. So the hunting budget will be reduced quite a bit the coming four years!

Congratulations! Incredible hunt and beautiful animal! What made you choose a 338 Lapua?
Thanks @Travis2282. The rifle is a Dakota Traveler in 338 Lapua topped with the Leica ER5 3-15X scope. In addition I have a 416 Rigby barrel that has a Schmidt Bender 1.1-4X scope I use for DG. I had all the paperwork done to take this rig for Uganda so that is how I ended up with it in Ethiopia. I always thought that I would use my 300 Ultra Mag whenever I hunted Mountain Nyala but was happy to have the extra bullet weight in the windy conditions.

Having put four kids through college, I can certainly relate. It is painful while it's happening, but once they get through college, get a job and get off your payroll, it's like getting a big pay raise.

Well done and a great adventure. Yes money keeps me from theses types of hunts...Cmon lottery ticket!
