Liam Urry Safaris offers you African outdoor theatre at its best. Apart from seeing the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, wildebeest and rhino – in the flesh, you’ll be treated to numerous other trophy-quality game to satisfy any hunter’s palate.

Liam Urry Safaris is a privately owned business, which prides itself on providing service excellence. The exclusivity of a true African experience balanced with the measured comfort of our establishment, is what keeps our guests returning.

My team and I continue to strive for service excellence, efficiency and attentiveness to your every need. We want to ensure that your stay is a memorable one.

“Isihlahla saziwa ngezithelo zaso.” – Zulu proverb. “A tree is known by its fruit.”

This further implies that a person’s success is shown by his or her deeds – the only real validation.

Furthermore, our in-depth knowledge and passion for the Northern Cape, South Africa and the rest of our continent will enrich your insight into this serendipitous hunting experience.

Fancy hunting the dark continent?
Imagine stalking a large, maned lion in the Kalahari Desert, or hunting tiny Red Duiker in the dense undergrowth of Kwazulu-Natal.

Liam Urry Safaris offers you a variety of hunting areas and packages to choose from. These areas have been carefully selected to offer you, the hunter, a shot at that once-in-a-lifetime trophy.

We offer our clients an opportunity to hunt a wide variety of game species on our private game ranch (Base Camp) in the Free State Province, a mere 30 minutes drive from Kimberley. Our ranch has been in the Urry family for three generations. We also offer many concession areas throughout Africa, hunting from the smallest game – the Blue Duiker -, to the largest – the elephant. With over 45 species of game, South Africa is truly a world in one country. We give the trophy hunter an opportunity to collect game species which are endemic to most of Africa.

Let us know in advance what species you intend to hunt, so that we can allocate to you the most suitably located hut – this is vital. The duration of the average recommended safari is 10 days; this will allow you quality, unrushed hunting time. Trophy hunting takes place throughout the year, though the best time of year to visit would be March-October. The winters (May-August) are normally cold and dry, with summers (September-April) being hot and wet.

We at Liam Urry Safaris are totally committed to ethical and sound. Hunting is done by means of walk and stalk, which makes for a more thrilling safari. Tracking down your game on foot is the best way!

Unwind with us
For your midday break, you may indulge in a cold drink alongside the pool, or simply lounge on the deck as you soak up the Free State sun, in this African context.

When the heat of the day makes way for the cooler dusk air, Cape Hares – who’ve set up permanent residence at the watering hole - are the first inhabitants to appear. Then, as the African sun makes a multicoloured, glorious exit behind the surrounding mountains, game start to emerge and wander around more freely. And soon the herds head for the drinking hole - truly something to behold.

Having worked up an appetite from the day’s hunt, you may exhale in the “boma” around a crackling fire, and indulge in a bottle of the Cape’s finest wine. This while you take in the sky’s vibrant orange, gold, and red display - so typical of a Free State sunset in this African context.

Our fully equipped kitchen will indulge your palate with a smorgasbord of scrumptious, African and international classics. And all dietary requirements will be catered for on request.
