I tried to look on this forum, but I was not able to find information.

Other plains game not so frequently hunted and reported here:
Thomson gazelle, gerenuk, grants gazelle? They can be found listed as game species in Tanzania as per info on the Tanzania info page.

However, the reports, on these hunts are very scarce, as well as the offers, and prices?

I came to this question very remotely planning some future hunts, as my next is already booked for Namibia PG.

So if anybody knows more about options, and prices for hunt on these species? Optionally, are they possibly introduced to some other countries, like SA or Namibia? Etc?

As far as I know, these species only occur in East Africa.
When I hunted Tanzania in 2004 and 2005 I managed to get grants gazelles and the lesser kudu...gerenuk and Thompson's escaped me!! We saw lots of gerenuk, but not shootable Rams.

@Bullet Safaris would certainly provide a quote.

I have not heard of any being transplanted to anything but zoos outside their original habitat.

Those gazelle species would be cool to hunt, I’d like to find out more info on them

Actually, I have seen some trophies, and they look great!
Then I started preliminary search, and at first glimpse they look very "huntable":

Looking at wikipedia, conservation status:
Grants gazelle - LC, least concern
Thomson gazelle - NT, nearly threatened, should be huntable from international (cites) standpoint
gerenuk - NT, nearly threatened, should be huntable from international (cites) standpoint

On local level, should depend on local, and national laws and regulations.

I too have wanted to hunt the plains game of Tanzania. It takes a little more strategy and planning than a regular hunt to Namibia or South Africa. It would be best to combine the hunt with the BIG 5 to make it more cost effective.

Except, (maybe) for a buffalo cow, big 5 is out of my price range... But yes, PG, and these three look very huntable to me.

Problem is that you need to go to Tanzania, which as you all know, has become extremely expensive.
You need longer Safari periods...14 or 21 days if I'm not mistaken at highest fees.
Even when I went in 2005 I decided on a 21 day Safari and to include the Big 5 to maximise value for money...at that time to pay fees were very reasonable.
Back to the gazelles...they are purely plains species and like to maintain their safe distance...usually about 400m.
I had to get as close as possible and then shoot from the vehicle, which I do not like, but there was no other way.
My son was glasding them with the range finder..my shots were 412m and 383m on the Grants gazelles...no luck on the Tommies...too far!! Was using 300Win mag and 180 gr soft points. Wind was also a major issue.
Gerenuk are like Impala and feed off the shorter tree leaves etc..climb on back legs like a goat and browse....hence the elongated necks being evolved!
Maybe Bullet Safaris or similar has some good deals on this hunt? Consider the other unique to area species..lesser kudu as well...very difficult to hunt but well worth it. I have a beautiful full mount in my trophy toom.

Bruce,
Very good first hand information, Thanks!

Michel Mantheakis has some excellent plains game in the Lake Natron area. Contact Blake Wilhelmi and they will get some quotes, you better be sitting down, fun ain't cheap. I would do some Buff hunting while you are there, you can go fly camping on the mountain chasing Buffalo.

Like Bruce pointed out, I think you have to have the longer license's to kill the glamour antelope's.

Tanzania is very expensive. I want to go there someday when I’m able to. The Gernuk requires a 21 day Safari license so you are looking at $100K safari. These Safaris often require a charter flight that’s even more cost. Hence the reason you don’t see a lot of reports for them.

Not adding any value whatsoever, but I want to comment none the less... I have 2 species on my "Oh, if I had the money..." wish list: 1) Lesser Kudu 2) LD Eland. Very different terrain, not possible on one hunt (to the best of my knowledge), but definitely something I dream of.

I also dream of hunting a Kob, Gerenuk and the Gazelles, but a 21 day safari for them ? :E No:

Hi to all - good comments and questions here... there is also great information in this hunt report recently filed on AH

You can not compare this rare Plains Game hunt in East Africa to a standard PG ranch hunt.... in experience and definitely not in the price!
For what it is I think that it is actually an affordable safari with my company; the location/area is great, quality of game is very good. If you research it you will find that the hunts we are doing are top notch with great quality animals.

We put together customized packages that will eliminate many of the fears of TZ. You don't need to hunt 21 days with us and you will not have ridiculous charter fees. We try to do about 4 of these per year (these animals are of course limited in availability).

TZ really gets the advantage to almost any location in Africa when you add the dangerous game into the deal (as some members already commented above). The more you do at one time the better.
Our cats hunts are second to none, our buffalo are on par with the best operations in Zim or Moz, and we have many other key species that few other places can offer on a single safari.

The expensive part in TZ is really the daily rate when you get down to it - so as with most things early planning will save you $! To go just for a Grants or to go just for a Lesser Kudu would be too expensive for most - but when packaged the correct way it is a realistic option for many hunters.

Thanks... that's my 2cents!

Those gazelles are so cool! Man I wish this was more affordable

Well, I am still looking to get at least rough idea of budget required for such safari...

The gazelles are cool. Also, the Kob.... only in certain countries.... I’d love to hunt one.
